Landing tyre smoke effects

Featured Replies

With all the wonderful effects that we have been seeing in the past weeks like thrust reverses, rolling wheels, etc., the landing smoke tires will the cherry of the cake.

Thanks Nico and Real Traffic team for this master piece of software.

Is this already implemented? I didn't see it yet with the AIG models, but maybe I didn't look close enough.

Kind regards, Michael

Yes it is. From what I've seen most (all) of the AIG models support reversers+sound and wheels rotating in alignment with the speed.

I am sorry, but I couldn't get it to work yet. I settled for 20 min at YSSY with pretty heavy inbound and outbound traffic driven by PSXT/RT, but none of the incoming planes had landing smoke.

I thought this might have been caused, perhaps, by my networked configuration. Thus, I started both at the main machine, but with the same result.

I know the effect as such, it works if I drive traffic using FSLTL + FSLTL injector, and it really looks nice.

And idea what I could have done wrong?

Perhaps you can read off a hint from the attached Log file from my main machine?

Thank you and kind regards, Michael

That's right, that is not implemented... The OP mentioned it as being the next nice to have feature.

Ah, thank you, I agree: It would be the next nice to have feature.😉

Maybe this would require support from AIG, though.

Hello ,

I don't see that effect on my end when using FSLTL injector, unless it's raining.

@pmb Can you confirm if you see the touchdown smoke effect even under dry conditions?

The effect is already there in P3D.

@kiek In theory, FSLTL touchdown effect should appear under the following conditions:

  • SIM ON GROUND = 0
  • VERTICAL SPEED (feet per second ) < -5
  • PLANE ALT ABOVE GROUND MINUS CG (feet) < 1
  •  GROUND VELOCITY (knots) > 8    // not 100% sure about this one though. if the above don't work , then may be also set the speed before touchdown and see what happens.

I think AIG and Just Flight use the default MSFS effect library, but will need to check if PSXT can replicate the conditions required to trigger the effect.

Cheers,

Amine.

It I am not mistaken, this was a couple of times under dry conditions. I usually use PSXT/RT and only rarely FSLTL, though. Will re-check and report.

I went plane watching at KSFO with pretty heavy traffic at this time using FSLTL. All planes I saw taking off as well as landing had impressive tyre smoke. It might even be a touch overdone, but it is really impresssive. And this was with a dry weather preset (and ground was definitely dry visually).

I would *love* to have this with PSXT/RT.

On the downside, I say an airliner circling at low high over KSFO with another one taking off beneath which certainly will not happen in real world. Maybe this can be remedied using those two addons (AIFlow/AIGround or whatever they are called) but I am not into further experiments right now.

Kind regards, Michael

I might have a working solution to get the smoke effect without the need to make changes to PSXT code.  Expect more on that later today.

Amine.

😊 Would gladly test that.

I came up with two different approaches to get the smoke effect for FSLTL model that you can test by following these steps:

  1. download FX1.xml  from here
  2. download FX2.xml  from here
  3. go to <path_to_you_community_folder>\fsltl-traffic-base\ModelBehaviorDefs\FSLTL\Misc
  4. Make a backup of the FX.xml file inside the folder.
  5. Replace the content of the FX.xml file with the content of FX1.xml and save.
  6. Restart the sim if already running. Do your testing and note any observations and noticeable side effects.
  7. Next, close MSFS and replace the content of the FX.xml file with the content of FX2.xml and save.
  8. Start the sim if already running. Do you testing and note any observations and noticeable side effects.

Please share your testing results for FX1 and FX2 once your testing is complete so I can adjust as needed.

Cheers,

Amine.

Hi Amine,

thank you very much for your effort. So I'll have to switch to using the FSLTL models with PSXT first, as I've been using the AIG momdels so far. But I can do that.

Will test tonight and report the results.

Kind regards, Michael

Edit: While downloading, I saw, both links go to FSX1.xml. Could you upload FX2.xml? Thanks.
