There are some Linux releases that can be used by children and me 🙂

Which ones? I'll try again if that's true. Any release that does not require me to enter lines of code just to instal a graphics driver would be great.

Linux is just community freeware geek soup

I just installed Linux Mate, use it for Ham radio stuff. Just complied my first APP, Linux now is easier to install than windows, might not be perfect, bu the problem with most windows users they want every one to fix their problem instead of trying to do it them self. Its a requirement for any OS these days that you learn a little. And Mate is far more stable than Mint. Used mint quiet a bit.

And its far faster than windows. And Im 59 still learning.

Irrelevant. There are those who enjoy entering code into a command line and those who have better things to do such as enjoying their simulator. Linux is little more advanced than MSDOS imo in that it is equally as difficult to use. I remember so well the first version of Windows that replaced DOS which made computers accessible to everyone. Linux is just community freeware geek soup.

go back and actually watch the video on page 2.

so, my only problem is that I can't decently run IL2 Battle of Stalingrad in Linux 😞

lightbulb moment.

thousands, maybe even 10s of thousands of steam deck users clogging up the dcs, p3d, il2, msfs etc support channels asking when they can use it on their device and commenting how much better xp12 is than any of them could quite possibly end up being the funniest schadenfreude moment of a lifetime.

That was only one, most others just click and they install themselves, some you just run from the APP. If XPLANE had more addons for Linux, my desktop would be a Linux machine.

Each to their own and I'm glad you are enjoying Linux. But it's unrealistic and unfair to expect everyone to do likewise. Personally I have absolutely no need or reason to use it as Windows suits me just fine. This whole debate started when Sparks stated that he thought LR should drop Windows support and concentrate on Linux.

Standard windows experience for compiling something:

visit 10 or 15 very shady looking websites, install 15 updates and 10 different programs

reinstall the OS three times to get rid of the windows virus's you picked up trying.

fail entirely at an unintelligible error message.

Standard linux and mac experience for compiling something.

type make,

spend your time on a yacht and flying cool aircraft.

Will Linux run MSFS? If not why would I deprive myself of another superb simulator?.

At the risk of repeating myself again, but probably worth repeating...

The point is that whether you wanted too or not you couldn't. And therefore you could not use and enjoy 90% of the best available games, sims, programs etc etc. So why would anyone want Linux? I'm ready to be persuaded there is some killer advantage but at present I can't see one? X-Plane itself runs on Linux but many of what I consider to be essential plugins do not.
