ADDON LINKER

Featured Replies

Hi! I have just set up ADDON LINKER for FS2020 and it's working but some sceneries do not work although in addon and community folders shown all addons are linked

in light green colour. Is there any way that this can be fixed?. Thanks

The issue is likely in your individual sceneries.  Can you post a view for one of those non-working sceneries of the contents of its immediate scenery folder showing the files in that folder and the underlying folder structure?  Would look like similar to this:

I think if you right click on the right side of the screen you can remove any invalid links (the ones in pink).

hello @MOD_FLYER

(was typing this and then saw the 2 new replies above, but now that it's already typed i'll leave it here as is 🙂 )

as @fppilot said maybe try to post a screenshot of what you see that might help, and as @PilotPete99 said make sure you have no invalid links in the community folder panel (light red background)

-- my original message before i saw the 2 other messages --

If the link is created, it should make no difference for the sim (Windows sees the link exactly like if it was as a real folder so it should always work).

That being said, some users have had some problems with some mods after they moved them outside of the community folder to place them in their custom addon folder. Sometimes (still not very sure why some people had this probs and others not) the files in the community folder get 'encrypted' and if you move them around they don't work. So they will work if the files are physically in the community folder but they will not be readable in your custom folder.

I'm unsure if that's your issue but can you maybe try this with 1 of the addons you have the problem with :

  • delete it completely from the community folder
  • redownload it
  • extract it directly in your custom addon folder (never put it in the community folder)
  • link it
  • check if it works fine in sim (it should). If it works, that would mean that there is no problem with the addon or the tool, it's just windows that didnt like the file because it was moved.

If that doesn't work, msg me and we'll check more in details.

Thank you.

started yesterday with using this , really fantastic piece of software.

one question tho, i use the worlswide shipping ai (really nice) , but this writes a GAIS_MDSF_v1_CVT_ folder with simobjects

to the communityfolder, ofcourse this has no json..the linker says that, it would be nice if it just made a link to that folder too, now

i have to leave that one in the community folder always.

Everything else works fine, fantastic utility.

Thanks you very much I have tried your sugesstion but it did't work. May be the scenery file is corrupted, I installed and try in original comm. folder it did't work anyway I have gone back to the

original community folder

@wim123 the CVT folder is created automatically by the sim because the addons contains FSX legacy models, if you delete it for example, the sim will recreate it automatically the next time it will the addon. If you put a 'fake' manifest.json file inside that CVT folder (copy on from another addon), the tool will recognize it 'as addon' and you will be able to activate it on demand in your custom folder. Just be aware that if you forget to activate it and the main addon is used, that folder will be recreated in the community folder. Not sure if it's very clear, let me know if it isn't 😉

@MOD_FLYER i'm not sure i understand correctly when you say this 'i installed and try in original comm. folder it did't work anyway I have gone back to the original community folder' .. i understand it like 'it didnt work in the orginal community folder so i went back the original community folder' 🙊😜. If you are interested to investigate further, can you maybe send me a picture via private message of what you see when you move that addon and try to activate that addon ? Thank you.

What scenery are you having difficulty with?

oh wow, ty very much, will try that, i know it is because of old conversion stuff.

i do understand the issue , i think, all folders need a json file in order to get recognised by the linker.

thanks for the quick reply, it wil get solved.

A new opportunity to warmly thank the baddest cool T guy for his wonderful mod and support.
You rock!!

And ... after a word from "BAD" ... you'll need to go into Linker Options/Additional Options and make sure "Hide _CVT_ folders ..." is UNticked 😉

Plus ... you might want to set the [moved] _CVT folder as a "dependency" of the main aircraft addon, so it's automatically enabled/disabled along with the main aircraft.

All working beautifully here 🙂

I assume that we leave payware stuff, that gets installed into Community folder, there? Like REX Textures, JF Arrow, etc?

As much as I would like to have a clear community folder and use addon linker for everything, I find it is best to let some of the commercial packages install into the community folder.
Some of them can complain when updating if they can't find the original in the community folder.

I think in my case, addon linker is best for all my freeware downloads anyway, as there are hundreds so I can select and deselect easily through that to decrease the sim loading time.

I also have quite a bit of Orbx stuff now, but using Orbx Central, it puts all the Orbx stuff in its own private folder somewhere and makes a link just like addon linker does; but once again, it is easy to select or deselect from the Orbx Central app if you need to.

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

I install the ones that let me select a location to a payware folder then use linker with it. The ones that don't offer a choice and install to community I move to the payware folder after installed and then use the linker with them.
