March 30, 20215 yr Other than SoFly addon is there anything else out there that will allow me to set custom visibility? I prefer viz to be around 10nm which also helps with frames. thanks for any help Keith Sandford.
March 30, 20215 yr There are some options to look through on the Custom weather display. I was looking at them this morning but I've forgotten if there's one there for visibility. If there is one it would be on the Custom page. Look for the flight conditions button top right of the flight planner, then the custom weather button bottom left of the options page. Mike Beckwith
March 30, 20215 yr Unlike previous versions, there is not a dedicated visibility option. Aerosol density sort of changes things but I dont know of a way to manually change the visibility. Using live weather I have gotten very low visibility due to the weather so they are able to pull it off somehow but just not manually.
March 30, 20215 yr Due to the nature of volumetric atmosphere rendering, it is really hard to control visibility directly. Most of volumetric atmosphere implementations use physical inputs like Mie scattering and extinction coefficients, not ground visibility. In MSFS' case this input is aerosol density as Mie scattering is the dominant scattering event for aerosols. It is possible to map aerosol density into ground visibility, but it requires a lot of tweaking / calibration. Prepar3D's new default Enhanced Atmospherics (volumetric atmosphere & clouds) implementation have a similar issue - while there is a visibility slider, it does not match real-life conditions accurately. With that being said, I really hope Asobo adds a way to manually control ground visibility. PC specs: i5-12400F, RTX 3070 Ti and 32 GB of RAM. Simulators I'm using: X-Plane 12, Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020) and FlightGear.
March 30, 20215 yr And i hope they add more real visibility to the live weather. No smog, no city haze, no inversions...no humid air and what not. Intel i9-13900K | Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Master | RTX4090 | 2x16GB Corsair Vengeance DDR5-6000 | Be quiet! Pure Loop 2 FX AiO | Win 11
March 30, 20215 yr My single biggest gripe with the sim. There is absolutely no way to control the visibility/haze in the sim. Also this aerosol density mumbo jumbo is just a gimmick. Live weather has absolutely no effect on aerosol density. The way the sim lowers visibilty is bringing the cloud layer to the ground. What about reduced visibility due to humidity? Getting sick of these cavok conditions. Baber My Youtube Channel http://www.youtube.com/user/HDOnlive

March 30, 20215 yr Just now, sanh said: When I fly to places like Delhi the missing visibility feature really shows up. I remember flying to Shanghai as a passenger and from TOD to landing we had nearly no visibility due to smog and haze. Really miss this in the Sim. March 31, 20215 yr I voted I am precisely in flight towards Agadir visi 8km but it will be a visibility like a CAVOK ...
March 31, 20215 yr Still boggles my mind that why would they leave such a crucial weather parameter out. Even FSX had it. Edited March 31, 20215 yr by Baber20 Baber My Youtube Channel http://www.youtube.com/user/HDOnlive
March 31, 20215 yr Yes that's what I told myself also FS2004 had the fog how MSFS2020 can not have it !! Well, it's going 9 months since the game was released and still nothing ... I hope that ActiveSky will also come soon
