Well yes but by the late 40's most aircraft lost the astrodome and portable sextant and were fitted with dedicated periscopic sextants that were built in to the aircraft.

It would be really good if more sim aircraft from the period allowed you to use an almanac and sextant for position plotting, though obviously that also requires the stars be correct for your date,  time and place in game. The other issues is only people with boating navigation experience are likely to know how to use a sextant and almanac these days,
