December 19, 20205 yr I bought an Alienware with a RTX 3080. In times of parts shortages, better to buy pre-built. The computer has the latest hardware and 5 year bumper-to-bumper warranty, including 24 hour support. I would not pay 1500 for a 3080 as many have reportedly done so. Better off buying a pre-built that way you get everything upgraded. Edited December 19, 20205 yr by Huascar

I also bought 850W PSU but haven't install it yet. I did some research regarding power requirements, and discovered if one doesn't use crazy overclocking 750W power should be more than sufficient. So I'm currently running my i9-10900 in boosted "game mod" vis MSI Dragon Center and RTX3090 on auto clock. When I run Cyberpunk 2077 or MSFS RTX3090 temperature goes to about 70-75 C, GPU clock goes also up 1700+Mhz. So everything run smoothly on 750W PSU (EVGA non modular). As mentioned above MSFS runs smoother on Ultra with little fps gain, in contrast Cyberpunk got significant fps boost comparing with my old 2080 Super. So overall I'm happy! Nice! How much VRAM? I'm only going to upgrade from my 2080 Super when I can afford the card with the most VRAM possible! Edited December 20, 20205 yr by Kilo60 Chris Camp

I'm starting to think the same thing as I plan to get 6y out of the next GPU unless there is a quantum breakthrough before then, which the typical 1-2y upgrades don't qualify for. So likely a 3090 even though I know full well neither MSFS nor P3D really can use that amount of VRAM. DX-12 is supposed to change that some. I hope I can get one in the next few months. December 20, 20205 yr As much as I want to upgrade to the 3090 I just don't see how it's going to improve the server side AI and photogrammy (I.E. the real-time AI photogrammy algorithms LOD or low LOD morphing terrain mountains)... I can see this becoming more of an issue the more we upgrade our hardware for this sim. Great concept ABOSO have created but I don't see how throwing better PC hardware is going to overcome it! Yes, the one with the insane RGB lights. But it's got a big chunky cooler, and the whole card seems well built with a lot of aluminum. In FS2020 I get about 80-84C, with fans at about 72%. GPU load is 80% - 95% depending on if I fly in an urban enviroment or the desert. That being said, I'm running a "Silent BIOS" on the card instead of the "Performance BIOS", so it's thermal throttling trying to keep the card more silent vs letting it boost further and spin the fans higher. In Performance BIOS it will happily up the wattage to 420 W. On Silent BIOS its around 370 W which is already more than the FE cards at 350 W. Around 80-85C is normal for a big GPU, but what could wear the card down the line is if you've spun the fans at 100% for hours every day. And I want my RTX 3090 to last at least 4 years, hopefully longer. Hence the Silent BIOS with lower fan speeds. I also got the R9 5900X which helped a LOT in urban areas. There's basically no lag in densely populated areas any longer. Except for downtown LA of course which causes stutters when flying low VFR. If you fly at around 11000 feet there's no stutter, just super smooth. Other urban areas seem fine. All in all, the R9 5900X + RTX 3090 is a fantastic combo. It's just amazing how well it performs. One change I had to make to my PC was putting more cooling fans in the front as well as change the H100i liquid cooler to an NH-D15 air cooler to get more airflow through the case. It benefits both the CPU and GPU as well as the chipsets. Just keep a positive pressure with more air going in than being sucked out, and dust will not be a big problem either. December 21, 20205 yr so now I've sorted out my performance issue I'm seeing temps of about 65, with GPU load @ 50-55% running Ultra @1440P. Still main thread limited but reaching out to Scan for them to share my OC settings on my Rog Strix x570 after a BIOS reset happened during the new GPU install - so hopefully still some wiggle room there. For Ryzen user's or anyone with real world experience - Currently I'm running up to 4.3Mhz on all cores, but I've heard this can hurt single core performance, anyone have any thoughts on this, or has done tests on leaving at stock speeds vs all core OC and the affect on MSFS performance? December 21, 20205 yr I can confirm that I was able to get a 5600x to OC to 4.5GHz on all cores. Pretty useless overclock because PBO boosts dynamically few cores at a time to 4.6GHz - ie: single core performance is better at stock boost speeds. Decided not to overclock afterall.
