New Orbx Weather addon

Will you be bundling this with 'Plane Picker' at a discounted price? 🤣

Chock,

I think you may be underestimating the potential demand for both those products.  The man would have to be crazy to offer a discount.

I am seriously thinking of designing a programme which features a short cut to the taskbar which, handily, will only become available after the "fly now" icon is pressed. This feature has the potential to triple the price particularly if the former two software assets are included in a bundle.  What a bargain

I have an idea for another addon: MagentaChild's Airport Picker: Picks an interesting airport for you from a selection of over 100 airports! Only 9,99!

I'll take two copies please.

Well you'd need two copies, wouldn't you? One to select the departure airport and one to choose the destination! You don't think he'd just surrender the money-making option, do you?😁

As for the Orbx add-on, each to their own, but I'm happy enough using live weather most of the time and just fiddling around with presets now and again. I certainly don't see a need to spend money on this one.

RAM: Corsair Vengeance DDR4 64Gb (4x16GB) 3600 MHz; GPU:  MSI Radeon RX 5700XT [8GB]
SSD:  Corsair Force MP510 (for OS);  2x 1TB & 1x 2TB Sabrent Rocket Nvme PCIe 4.0 (one for sim, two for addons)
HDD:  Seagate 3TB (Data); Seagate 1TB (Programs), ASUS TUF Gaming VG32VQ1B Curved 31.5" monitor, 1440p, 38Mbs ethernet

Just to clarify to those calling it "ORBX Weather Addon". ORBX is not the developer, but the publisher, and it is an addon developed by SoFly.

David they are not charging $100 for a global package and then throwing some extra themes.

They are only asking for $7 for what I believe makes the sim look better. The issue is that they are not dynamic.

I know Jose, but there are so many talented folks working on open source projects for free in this community since MSFS that I believe it's a shame for a company like ORBX to sell an addon that doesn't require more work and knowledge than moving cursors and saving themes.

IMO they could have offered it to the community or at least to their customers.
They could also have avoided calling their thing "Pro", which is downright ridiculous.

2 separate Questions here, firstly is there any point in extra weather presets at all and secondly are they worth paying money for.

I am personally happy enough with the free Nexus addon and might use it as a template to create my own. Other people may be happy to pay for the Orbyx one, that is their call.

As far as preset weather being "useless" (like some others have claimed)  that depends what you do in game. If you mainly fly IFR at FL300  between major airports probably no need to bother.

However presets in general, are invaluable for example if you fly IFR in OTHER sims (as that is where you have invested in all your expensive addon aircraft) but mainly use MSFS to mess about flying VFR in GA planes. Depending where you live, the MSFS live weather is not going to be VFR friendly much of the time and these custom presets are very convenient and can access a lot of visibility/rain/etc levels you cannot get from the GUI custom weather sliders.

More power to you if you feel the need to spend money to pull down presets that are already in the sim and have freeware links.  I just want live WX to be live WX.   The data is there from meteoblue, and have no doubt the data is accurate, but the sim is messing it up sometimes.  One flight it will be precisely accurate, and another flight will be like a default wx with default 225/03 @ FL390 with mostly clear skies.  Its these bugs that should be upvoted by everyone.

Another weather add on (after REX) which I'm struggling to comprehend a use for.  I can already set manual presets in stock sim so why do I need this?  Either way I almost always fly with Live Weather anyway.....

if i wanna fly in japan, i cannot use live weather, timezone differences, so its nice to have more presets.  ( i use the free ones)

rex is mainly for ppl who fly on vatsim or ivao, to have same weather at airports all the time.

that you du not comprehend its use, doesnt mean its useless.

You can use live weather and still can choose your time settings.

It's astonishing how many don't know this.

I cannot understand why.  All we have to do is read the manual. I really do wonder how many problems and frustrations a manual would have averted.  Never mind... simply head to the mis-information bureau  errr ,,, sorry, Youtube, and sift through the many videos made by unknown contributers with unknown creditials and/or motives to have it sorted out by anyone other than the developers.  Simple eh?

Absolutely. You won't see me disagreeing. If anyone sees the need for this add-on, more power to them. If, like me, it's a needless expense, that should be fine too. More variety is great for the sim, just as long as people can make an informed choice, rather than being taken in by any marketing hype.

I wouldn't have said astonishing. As there's no manual, you only find out a number of things about this sim by either experimenting or finding out from others who have done that.

I find presets are handy if I want to fly VFR and the live weather is not suitable.

I downloaded and installed this preset collection from nexus mods:

https://www.nexusmods.com/microsoftflightsimulator/mods/80

The "Tropical Storm" is insane.

I tend to use the "scattered showers" preset a lot.   It is perfect for VFR.

Where do these presets go? I have the MS Store version. Thanks.

I'm now in sim heaven thanks to MSFS 2024 and hundreds of add-ons!
