This whole thing is getting a bit unfortunate. Have you noticed quite a number of (formerly) active members disappearing from the AVSIM MSFS forums or at least no longer writing on the sim itself (which they are forbidden by the NDA)? So most of the remainings are the losers who had a wrong parameter in dxdiag or too much or  too less experience in simming or just bad luck. As a result, the AVSIM MSFS forums have a tendency of loosing substance and becoming more and more speculative instead while all those left in have answers to most of the questions posed here.

This doesn't mean the alpha approach MS took was wrong, I don't think so, and they certainly couldn't include 20.000 or so people immediately into the program. Nonetheless it's unfortunate for those left at the outside and it would be nice to see as many as possible to be included soon.

Kind regards, Michael

I’ve got an account,  and typing the address makes no difference because you need to log in via the homepage. Der.
i can see the memberships and same with profile, but theere ain’t any messages or posts available to view for non alpha (or aloha :p) members.

And seriously, discord, what a joke of a program anyway. Talk about what’s the point with that one.

If you can see the memberships, what are you going on about?  That is what I was getting at to begin with.  Regarding  Discord, No one is forcing you to join the server.  For many, myself included, it is just an easier program to use for a busy lifestyle, as I can get near instant updates in one handy place.

Yeah, thats the downside of thousands of alpha invites. It is clear that this and other forums are more silent, because they have their own forum. Those weekly updates doesnt make that kind of ”buzz” here anymore, since they know those things already.

I have to confess, before I was accepted I checked this subforum every day but since I got in, I rarely go here anymore (for reasons that are easy to figure out).

Thanks for the link. I finally got Discord up and running, and even managed to get verified for the Alpha testers forum after a bit of faffing around. :)

I still don't see the benefit though since the Alpha testers forum at forums.flightsimulator.com are working just fine...

...just no "Public" forums active yet. :emu_melk:

Well, it’s just an easier way to talk with people. On a forum you either have to create new topics or keep replying (and making a thread longer).

Discord is nice for some casual chatting (and voice chat).

Perhaps so, but not if one has email, Skype, Slack, Discord open, and still have to forum dive at least seven website's forms...

...and be a mod at both AVSIM and flightsim.com (although the latter doesn't take my time).

Yeah it's a preference really, and works way better than TapaTalk ( or whatever it called on mobile for forums ) on Mobile, and most people these days use mobile app's more and more for social sites, and  say for instance you are on multiple Discord for different hobbies, it's all in one place and you can go back and forth quickly. Way easier to post screenshots, etc.. in most cases, but I think the main thing is mobile. Reading forums on a cell phone is not very good, compared to Discord. Just like forums you have to pick and choose, there are a lot of wild wild west discord's out there. I would also think the new younger simmers would gravitate to Discord, but I could be wrong. They have grown up on mobile 🙂

Just like I enjoyed a quick chat with you today on the MSFS discord. I would never do that here. It's was quick, fun, and done 🙂 Glad you got your correct name too @n4gix on there 🙂

I would agree. I find it frustrating (from the other side of the in/out of Alpha test side) for a couple of reasons:

1.) A couple of times I've hinted about something in the sim that I cannot and would not confirm because of the NDA, only to be told by someone who is not in the Alpha and is only guessing that it is not true. If they don't want to take the hint then why should I care?

2.) Conversations here sometimes go along the lines of:

**************

UserA: Penelope Pitstop will die before she is 150 years old because she drives a Lexus.

UserB: The fact that Penelope Pitstop drives a Lexus has very little impact on the age she will die. Your logic is flawed.

UserA: Haha you are stupid, of course she will die before she is 150. I bet you any money you want, and I'll be the first to say I told you so.

UserC: To say that Penelope Pitstop wont die before she is 150 is stupid. No-one has ever lived that long and that wont change because of Burger King, so what the hell are you talking about UserB?

UserB: I give up.

**************

UserB never once said Penelope Pitstop wouldn't die before she is 150. UserB didn't give any opinion other than the fact that driving a Lexus has very little impact on it. For the next 3 days Users A & C upvote eachother's posts.

...and for that reason... I'm bored.

I strongly disagree!

Penelope needs a subscription for the Lexus!

Oh for Pete's sake, Lexussoft have already said that you can buy a Lexus without having to buy a subscription! Whether the satnav will continue to update remains to be seen.

I dont know but my feeling is alot people at discord have the feeling to be closer to the devs, getting news quicker ect.

just being a part of teh whole thing is enough 😉

I tried the Discord yesterday, and I reallly don''t get what's good about it. It's just a bunch of conversations and it's very hard to find any thread in it. I prefer the AVSim forums One Hundred percent better, cause you can see different threads and read the ones you're interested in,

So No, I'm not a fan of discord and will stick to Avsim and Facebook groups.
