It's worth it, you get what you pay for.

sorry brain dead thinking in £s..should get gpu something like that don't need latest

the extra hike on the very top end memory isn't worth it to you in fps

should look out for boxed mobo/cpu/memory kits, the ivy not much more soon

Steve Waite: Engineer at codelegend.com

Also if u dont want to wait for the 660ti look into the 560ti. Thats the lowest card i would recommend.

Agreed... don't go with 550 for any reason... gtx 560 or 560 ti at the least....

Make sure the PSU is a little better. In all honestly the 430w would probably work, but it would be a little tight. That corsair 650w tx ver 2 should be fine.

There seems to be some confusing info in this thread...

You're on a budget we know that.... here's what I would do

i5 2500K (overclocked, get a basic aftermarket cooler, like Hyper 212+ - http://www.coolermaster.com/product.php?product_id=6636)

8GB ddr3 1600 ram - you don't need better than that for SB

P67 mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157265

nvidia 560 gpu: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130660.... still you'd be happier with a 560 ti: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130604

1 TB HDD - here's an oem drive for 40 bucks off: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136533

Corsair PSU ($30 off): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139021

Don't forget monitor, kb, OS etc... not sure if you're budgeting for those they could put you over the limit.

Skip Ivy Bridge... it's not that much faster than SB... and it's not for people on a budget.

O my lord... now i'm up to $1200 and I can't do that. I have to stay below $900 to get it..

Hmm maybe look into buying a used graphics card. I use a gtx 470 and it runs fsx really good. Look around u could prolly pick one up for under $100. If not pm me.

Matt Wilson

are you overclocking at all, or plan to leave that door open or something?

Yes, above 4 Ghz

This really is the minimum to enjoy FSX. I know there are the naysayers that will slay me for saying it, but frankly I don't care.

Yes, you can build an AMD system, or an i3 system for a little less and it will work alright. But to enjoy FSX I crank my sliders, have lots of payware airports and planes... and use LOD of 6.5.... That's MY definition of enjoying FSX. It costs money...plain and simple.

It looks ok.... I'm weary of buying used PC parts though... you've got no idea if the thing works regardless of what the ad says. Maybe the person OCed the crap outta the card and it's on its last leg... you just don't know. Try to buy from someone you know...

I just wanted to throw in my .02 - I would recommend taking a look at the Ivy Bridge i5-3570k. The only difference between it and the i7-3770k is the hyperthreading. I could be wrong, but I've never personally seen a huge difference in FSX with/without hyperthreading. The 3570k is available on Newegg for around $230. Pair that with a Z77 chipset motherboard and you should be good to go - I agree with the above poster though. When it comes to FSX you're much better off with an Intel processor and nVidia video card. A 560ti will handle FSX well - that's what I'm currently using.

there's no way you can get an overclockable Intel rig for $900 including peripherals.

The cheapest overclockable board costs $100

Then swap that HD7750 for a 550Ti

I would upgrade the PSU to a Corsair CX500. The CX430 may work, but may not if you overclock. It's just 336W in the 12V rail. The CX500 has 408W and should be enough for a oc'ed 2500k + 550Ti

You'll also need a cooler if you plan to overclock the CPU

So you need another 100 bucks or run stock clocks.

Actually, I have a new rig for like $850 that I can overclock over 4 Ghz.

I talked to a computer expert on the phone for like 2 hours. He's been making computers for 20 years and is partnered with microsoft.

Here is what we came up with:

MSI 970A-G46 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS

CORSAIR Professional Series Gold AX650 650W High Performance Power Supply

Seagate Barracuda 750GB 3.5" SATA 6.0Gb/s Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive

Mushkin Enhanced Essentials 12GB (3 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Desktop Memory

Rosewill CHALLENGER Black Gaming Computer Case

AMD FX-4100 3.6GHz (3.8GHz Turbo) Socket AM3+ Quad-Core Desktop Processor

ASUS Radeon HD 7750 HD7750-1GD5-V2 Video Card

SAMSUNG S22B150N Black 21.5" 5ms Widescreen LED Monitor

That rig sucks for FSX. Big time. He told you to get 12GB in 3 sticks for that rig?

I don't know if that guy is a computer expert, but he definitely doesn't know a thing about FSX

That rig sucks for FSX. Big time

Why because everyone here is has boatloads of $$$ and gets the most expensive i7 there is out there? So they think that is all there is. I have to explore options, and he said this rig could handle some of the most advance modern games.

You don't need the most expensive GTX card out there. YOU DON't

How about instead of saying "that rig sucks" how about you say "It's ok, but here is where you need to change: ....... dot dot dot
