In Memoriam

As a community we have had the privilege of having fantastic contributors to our hobby who have passed. This is a special forum on AVSIM where we record the passing of those contributors to our hobby and provide, if we can, a small obituary to them.

  1. Started by n4gix,

The news link about the crash: http://www.mscnews.net/news/index.cfm?nk=62736 As many know, Vlado Lenoch was a major contributor to the A2A P-51D Accusim model. My prayers go out for the peaceful repose of Vlado and his remaining family and friends. My prayers also extend to Bethany Root and her family. She was a passenger in the P-51 at the time of the crash. She was the General Manager for Atchison's Amelia Earhart Airport.

Hello AVSIM shipmates, Just wanted to pass along the sad news we received today regarding our leader and web-ninja Ron (Ickie) Larson. He has been missing since the end of December, and today we received confirmation that he passed away on Dec 23. We are all a bit heart broken with the news, but we will continue, while keeping him and his family in our thoughts and prayers. - Paul

I just read over at the FS Developer Forums that Jim Vile, one of the best approach builders in Flight Sim, passed away in September 2016. His tutorial for adding the third runway at Washington National was...and still is...my guide for almost all airport mods I did and will ever do in the future. Jim personally helped me with several airport project I worked on for myself. His feedback was crucial to my success. I leaned heavily on he and David "Opa" Marshall and now both are gone. Odd how terribly you can miss someone you never got the chance to meet in person. My heart goes out to his family. Rest in Peace Jim. Randy Tyndall

I just saw this on the ORBX forums, Vlad Maly, the developer of Parry Sound, Horovice, and Airdrie has passed away after a battle with cancer. Looks as though John Venema has decided to offer his sceneries 50% off with proceeds going to his family in his memory. Always sad to see talent and a community member pass like this. If you would like to see his personal website filled with his flight simulation articles, artwork and photography you can find it here: http://francoisouellet.ca/en/tag/vlad-maly-en/ The original ORBX thread is here: http://www.orbxsystems.com/forum/topic/122091-rip-vlad-maly/?page=1

I have just saw that Heinz Dziurowitz passed away at 1:45 a.m. Wednesday, May 13, 2015, at Alton Memorial Hospital at the age of 59. He is probably best known for his 787 which was one of the best models for X-Plane when it was released. It was my first payware and is one of the add-ons that led the way for all the payware aircraft we have to day. He was also in two bands and you can find some videos of him performing on his wife's youth channel. You can find his obituary here. RIP Heinz. You will be truly missed by me and the rest of the community.

Posted on Majestic Facebook Page: ATTENTION Fellow Airmen: With the unfortunate news of the German Wings crash on the 24th of March it is with sad regret that I share the following news with you: The FS2Crew Team is in official mourning over the loss of fellow FS2Crew Team member, Maik Korolczuk, who died tragically in the recent German Wings crash in France. AirDailyX is reporting the unfortunate passing of Jon Patch, talented scenery designer and responsible for the payware Vancouver Plus (FSAddon) and freeware Victoria (with Holger Sandman - I seem to recall) among several others. Jon's contributions to our little community have been awesome and speaking personally added much to my enjoyment in discovering the Pacific North West. My condolences go to his family, relatives and friends.

Just a note that Joe Lincoln passed away this last Sunday, November 30. A few of the old timers will remember him. Did a lot of work with FS4, FS5, and maybe even earlier. I believe he wrote the very first real weather program back around the FS4 days. I can't think of any earlier weather programs. Also did a lot of FS work with Laemming Wheeler, and a few others, with the FS5 aircraft packages, which were released on CD's as Apollo and also sold from the LINX BBS. Also the FSWOW scenery design packages, and probably many other programs I can't remember offhand. He started the LINX BBS, which was a popular FS BBS in the days before the web took off. In recent year…

For people who don't know him. William B "Bill" Overstreet. The WWII pilot of the P51 Mustang "Berlin Express" has passed away. He died on Sunday in Roanoke Virginia. Here is a brief history of Mr. Overstreet from WWII. In the Spring of 1944 , Bill Overstreet of the Famous 357th FG, was hot on the tail of a German ME109G. The Pilot of the ME109 flew right over Pairs, where German anti-aircraft artillery was heavy, probably in hopes they would solve his problem by eliminating Bill and his P51C named "The Berlin Express". Bill persisted through heavy flak closing the gap between him and the ME109. Already hit in the engine, as a last resort the ME109 pilot aimed …

Alex Ridge has written us about the passing of Steven Inwood. Here is what Alex had to say; " Hi guys, As has been mentioned here, I am very sorry to inform you of the passing of Steve Inwood and wanted to say a short couple of things. Steve was an extremely talented sound engineer who's passion for flight simulator led him to produce some very high quality sound sets for our favourite aircraft in Flight Simulator X. Many of you I am sure, will have his ground roll effect installed on your machine and can appreciate some of the fine quality sound editing that he achieved and passed on to the whole community. He was extremely humble and took a great personal sati…
