DX-10 Discussions, Hints and Help

Interested in getting DX10 Technology working properly in FSX | FSX-SE?  This forum is for general discussion of how to get DX10 working properly and settings.

  1. Started by flyforever,

I had been using Steve's Dx10 since it came out. I was happy with it until I installed the Maddog VC mod. I knew that the maddog was heavy on fps, and with my i5-2500k at 4.4 and a new gtx 1060, I could only get 17 fps, regardless of the various settings. Additionally, I was not happy with the scenery. Something was not right. When I reverted to dx9, I was surprised to find that I can hold a steady 30 fps with AA settings of 8xSQ and extreme scenery settings in FSX. A 12 fps difference is what made me go back to dx9. tony

I expect to apply Steve's DX10 fixer. I have the NVIDIAInspector version 1.9.7.6 . The first thing : I do not have the tool icon to change the settings. So I have to use NVIDIA profile inspector ver 2.12 to change the settings... Normal or is there a better configuration ? And my second question is : I own FSX SP2 acceleration pack , knowing that, which setting do I have to select within the inspector ? Microsoft Flight or Microsoft Flight Simulator 10 ? Thanks

  5. I have just purchased Steve's fixer and have everything working well. I do have one issue now however. After I installed my Carenado 172n all the lights worked fine, I believe the lights are supposed to have native support for dx10. I closed FSX. I entered the fixer controller to change something and it asked me if I wanted to scan the effects folder and fix problems so I did that. The next time I entered FSX and used my 172 my navs and strobes all had a squarish appearance to them. All the default aircraft I switched to were fine. So I reinstalled my 172 and when the fixer controller asked me if I wanted to scan the changes I selected ignore. Now everything works fine wi…

So the other day I was flying around normally when I experienced the old out of memory error and I had to close FSX. This struck me as odd as I've only had this issue in DX9 mode, which is why I bought the DX10 Fixer and have been using the DX10 Preview. So I assumed I must have accidentally turned the preview mode off in the setting and when I went to check, I don't even have the Preview DX10 button there anymore! I have the acceleration pack installed so I know it should be there and it has been as I've been using it! I've tried repairing my install using the discs, reinstalling directx, rolling back my drivers incase an update caused a problem and nothing has helped. H…

Hi As a long time DX9 user and have been thinking about the advantages of going the dx10 route, I would like to go start doing long haul routes and have heard that OOM are less frequent using DX10. I gather it is possible to switch between DX9 and DX10 and back using the fixer but it is really as easy as just pressing the switch button? I take it I would need seperate Nvidia inspector profiles when switching, would i need seperate Cfg files too?

  8. I am using P3D on a GTX970 without a glitch. I reinstalled FSX:SE when A320x was released and am suffering. I am using the DX10 fixer and read the manuals and downloaded the FSLabs settings for DX10 fixer and NVI. Whenever I pan in full screen mode within the VC I suffer distortion. If I take a screenshot it does not appear - image is clean. I used a external camera to give you the idea.... http://www.dropbox.com/s/0euyy3pjjyxwpir/IMG_2567.JPG?dl=0 My NVI Settings are here http://www.dropbox.com/s/ranxxlhy67naynm/Screenshot%20%286%29.png?dl=0 http://www.dropbox.com/s/59054w48bz5vfcm/Screenshot%20%287%29.png?dl=0

Hi guys, I bought a long time ago the dx10 fixer but only yesterday I decided to install v3. My main problem (Im still refining my dx10 system) is at Aerosoft's LCLK Larnaca scenery. The lightpoles are emitting a strange white texture. Any ideas what's causing it? Thanks! Andy

Hi, I've recently had a problem when I switch from dx10, whenever I do I load up the sim, which loads for a few seconds, then my computer freezes and reboots, however the sim does work in dx10. I have tried reinstalling fsx but this hasn't helped. The only change I have made was setting up sim connect. Please help

Hi. I have just installed Steves fixer (v2.9) and I notice that with it active the cursor in the PMDG NGX remains just a pointer, does not change to a hand when turning knobs, but with the fixer disabled it works fine. I have checked and compared the settings with my old computer which worked fine but still the same problem on this new one. Any ideas? Thanks. Dennis

The latest DX10 How To Guide I can find for setting up a Nvidia profile to work with the DX10Fixer is Version 1.08a dated 10 December 2014. Has there been any guide updates since then? Thx, Al

  13. I'm running the DX fixer on my steam version. For some reason my FPS drops from over 70 in the default flight to 6 in full screen mode, If I switch to windowed mode my FPS is back to normal. Full screen and window mode work fine with DX9 Anyone with a similar issue or know of a fix? I detest windowed mode. In Windows 7 you used to have to keep windows Aero from turning off for things to work properly but they removed aero from 10.

  14. I am an 3D Vision user and am having an issue with disabling the PAPI and beacon lights when running in DX10. In a nutshell, the textures for these lights render in 2D and thus appear at screen depth when using 3D glasses. There is a known fix that I used for DX9 that renamed the halo.bmp (in the texture subfolder) and fx_2.bmp (in the effects/texture folder). This removes all runway and beacon lights; which is fine as I'm just flying in the daytime when using 3D. However, due to a myriad of DX9 problems, I want to run in DX10. However, when I switch to DX10 Preview, FSX seems to substitute some weird looking texture instead of just leaving it "blank" like D…

This might be worth a topic of its own so I am reposting this here. Some people have huge problems with performance using DX10 when there are (lots of) clouds onscreen and when they use higher AA settings like 4x AA with 4xSGSS. Some people also have problems with water animations. When trying to solve his water problems, and succeeding to do so (by installing the default FSX wave animation instead of the REX one), SolRayz (Marc) also found out, by surprise, his low fps problem was solved: So it would be a good thing if everyone who has an fps drop with clouds AND who uses REX animations to see if this solves your problem too! If this happens with eve…

  16. Hi ... I always fly on vatsim, the other day I almost ran into another aircraft while taxing... Then I realised my AI aircraft don't seem to have lights, only I see the landing lights... never seen navigation lights or taxi lights on other players. Is this a bug ? Can it be fixed ? I am on DX10, and have SteveM's latest fixer. Thanks..

I've looked at a lot of posts, but nothing that has really helped. I have had the fixer installed for a while, but I notice at night that there is a very large black oval shape above my aircraft. It's not there in the day time, but is always present at night. It's a HUGE oval shape and can been seen when you look left or right or directly up. Generally you cannot see it when looking straight ahead, but as soon as I look left or right, there it is. If I slew, I cannot climb above the solid texture. As the aircraft climbs, the oval texture rises as well. When I uninstall the fixer and go back to DX9, this problem does not exist. Is it poss…

Hey guys, I need some help... Last week I started playing around with DX10 for the first time to see how it would run. While the visuals look a little better (I think, it's marginal) my performance has dropped. On average I'm getting around 6-7 fps LESS when using DX10 from DX9, and I cannot figure out why. This contradicts most people's claims of the improvements and benefits they've found after switching over. I've been consuming posts and guides and Youtube videos, slowly making adjustments to FSX and NI setttings one at a time, and nothing has really helped. If I create a flight in FSX and get 28-30 fps, then I load the same flight with DX10 enabled, I'll get…

  19. I've never really liked P3D. Somehow I'm always drawn back to FSX. But the VAS problems with FSX have been a big issue for me. So, I decided to try Steve's DX Fixer in the hope that I could get some savings in VAS and push on with FSX. Little did I know..... After installing the Fixer the nagging stutters, both big and little, that have plagued me for years have gone. Disappeared. Vanished. Framerates are better, VAS useage is lower, and the stutters are simply not there. I pushed all the sliders right just flew a quick flight with the PMDG 737NGX. KMRY-KSNS-KWVI-KHAF-KSFO-KSQL-KPAO-KSJC-KRHV-KSNS-KMRY. All low (2500msl) and all slow (250kts). And absolutely no no…

Hi, I've starting using DX10 recently in FSX. I'm using Steve's Fixer also and wondered if there's any shaders out there that enhance DX10? Cheers.

  21. My testflight with DX10 and PMDGs 777 looked great, but I noticed that performance in VC view drops around 15 FPS compared to the outside view in the same situation. Its flyable, but stuttering. Switching to outside view almost always gives me 25- 30 FPS (which is external set limit anyways). It makes no difference where I am when observing this, its the same over the sea or over a big city. My system is a Phenom 2 X4 @ 4,0 Ghz with an OC'd 560Ti. I am using 4xCSSA in Steves Fixer and 4 x SGSS set in Nvidia inspector. Poolsize set to 0 (best results by experience on my rig) Has anyone a hint what to look at regarding PMDG's VCs? I am not posting this i…

Here is an interesting problem. I have been using FSX Steam Edition and just noticed this when flying into both Lake Simcoe and Collingwood sceneries by Flight Ontario. It seems to be only affected when I am in DX10 mode as everything appears normal in DX9. I am using a Zotac 960 2Gb card and it seems to only be in these two sceneries. I have played with the settings in Steve's DX10 fixer but nothing seems to solve the dilemma. I am hoping that someone out there might have an idea. It is odd that the buildings and vehicles are there but are blue and occassionally appear mirror like. Rick Rowe http://imgur.com/uOTYPn1

Hi everyone, I recently moved to DX10 using Steve's Fixer. So far it runs great and I am getting settled in with all the tweaking done to water etc. But there is one problem still remaining: REX4 uses FSX lens flare technique to simulate glare effects which are otherwise gone when using DX9 without bloom. In DX10 mode, however, this REX glare effect is almost unnoticable, resulting in the sun appearing flat. Switching sun effects to DX9 in REX4 options makes the glare effect as it should be, but it breaks the sun texture itself. I was searching for a fix on the internet but all the suneffect.cfg files I found so far were designed for DX9 and look weird in DX10…

Hi, I've upgraded my PC recently and re-installed FSX. I'm now DX10 compatitable since my upgrade so my question is, should I install DX10 V3.2.2 even though I'm not running FSX in DX10 preview mode? I understand the DX10 preview mode is to see how FSX would perform in DX10 mode, but if this is not selected does that mean I'm just running DX9 as default. Also, is "ReShade" worth installing to improve FSX? Thanks in advance.
