  1. Hmm, that thread mentioned by jcomm earlier is making it sound like the cache isn't performing too well - caching things that maybe shouldn't be cached, not caching things that should be cached.
  2. In network settings->advanced->data usage you can see how much data the sim has used. I'd set my cache size based upon that.
  3. One improvement at least is at FACT where I used to see parts of the jetways appearing and disappearing randomly depending on how near or far away you were from the jetway. That no longer happens in 2024. Ground markings are better overall.
  4. The way I understood what Seb was saying is that the cache is storing 80% of incoming data but discarding about 20%. It was in response to a user question. I don't have a time stamp to the section of the video unfortunately.
  5. It was mentioned on the last livestream that the cache is storing around 80% of data downloaded at the moment and that the patch due this week is supposed to address this problem.
  6. I suspect that making the cache too large might be counterproductive when it takes the game more time to search through a huge cache compared to simply fetching the required data from the internet.
  7. Not that I've found but the bundled FCR app kind of does. See: FlightControlTools
  8. I've been enjoying the Joby as well. I use the joystick trigger for level mode and my usual trim buttons I've assigned to speed increase/decrease. If you run out of juice, just land anywhere and do a quick recharge at 32 x speed. The manual is worth a read: https://flightsimulator.azureedge.net/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Microsoft_FlightFX-Joby-S4-Manual-V2.pdf
  9. There are a couple of aircraft with this tinted windscreen effect. It doesn't look good at all. What I'm finding more problematic is that on certain aircraft glare from the sun can make instruments impossible to read depending on where the sun is. I haven't found any graphic settings that help with this.
  10. You have to look at just the right spot to remove the chocks on the Optica. The 'C' key lets you crouch down. Nice informative video, thanks.
  11. No this is a settings guide. The video shows you the difference between various graphics settings and their impact on FPS. At the end there is a graph showing which settings have the biggest impact on FPS. Of course the results are going to vary from system to system but its nice to see the screenshots side by side.
  12. Brilliant video. Worth a watch to the end.
  13. I've had the impression that 2024 cockpits looked quite dark so started up 2020 and 2024 at the same time, put each one in a window with the same aircraft (Cessna 172), same airport, same clear weather and same time of day. 2024 looks quite a bit darker. Even the text on the panels in 2020 is easier to read.
  14. Unless I'm mistaken, the frame gen option only shows up in game for 4000 series cards.
  15. It settles down to a few Kbs every few seconds once everything is loaded in.
  16. Someone suggested letting the sim sit at the Ready to fly screen for a bit before entering the aircraft. If you bring up the task manager with CTRL-SHIFT-ESC you can monitor internet activity, wait until it settles down, then click the button to fly. Using this method I haven't noticed any odd problems with aircraft so far. Unfortunately the sim is re-downloading "something" every time you do a free flight, even with the same aircraft at the same airport. I've turned off all AI traffic, live traffic, multiplayer and real weather so that I'm loading into a completely static scene and the sim is still doing network activity before I've even touched the controls. I've seen brief spikes of up to 700 Mbps.
  17. Aircraft downloading begins at the aircraft selection screen. You will see this if you go into the liveries section and start scrolling through the different choices. It takes a bit of time for the new livery to display on screen the 1st time you pick it. My impression is that aircraft are being cached locally since selecting the same aircraft again at a later session seems to happen quite quickly. The point about passing the authentication process is false at least for the time being. For those interested in testing this for themselves there is a little tool called Net Disabler which can be used to turn your internet on or off at will. Available here: Net Disabler v1.1 |
  18. I forgot to mention that this is what I've observed in an area that I've spent several hours flying around now, mostly in the 172 or some of the other small GA aircraft. I do have the cache turned on and this area should have had ample time to download and populate the cache. You will get "timed out" even if your aircraft is sitting stationary on the ground.
  19. I've just re-tested this because my observation was made before the recent patch. You get a small message at the right-hand side of the screen at first warning you that your connection is unstable. After about 30 seconds you get a full screen error message stating Connection to network lost and a spinning circle appears along with a notice about the sim requiring a constant internet connection. After restoring your internet, the full screen message goes away and you're at the pause screen same as what you get when pressing ESC. Your aircraft does not continue to fly.
  20. FS2024 will pause after about 30 seconds of no internet with a big notice covering most of the screen telling you that it requires a constant internet connection. If your connection is restored the sim goes to the pause screen and stays there.
  21. Windows game bar is one of the ways. Press Windows Key+G.
  22. You can't optionally download anything in 2024 at the moment. If your internet goes down or you deliberately disable it while flying, the sim will throw up a warning message, followed by a complete halt less than a minute later until you re-enable internet. [Edit]: The timeout is closer to 30 seconds until you get a forced pause if your internet is off. [2nd Edit]: You don't even have to be flying. Simply sitting on the runway in an already cached area will trigger the pause with internet off.
  23. Never mind the vegetation. I was messing around with the graphic settings and about 20 hippos spawned next to runway 01 at FACT. At least they had the sense to stay off the runway.
