Thinking of giving up on IFR flying.
Oh...thanks for picking up on a comment of mine from 2 months ago...🙂... I will look into the above videos, and will surely, replicate some of it...seem very nicely put together along with charts and maps. Yes, such Bush Flying is indeed challenging and enjoyable in our SIM. Since my FSX days, I have gathered (and preserved to this day) several books on bush flying and bush country airports (meant for RW Pilots) in the mountainous regions of North America. I would regularly pick a random airport e.g., in the states of Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, and fly to/from it. I also do this once in a while in MSFS. However, in MSFS, with its vastly improved (default) global mountain landscape (over the past SIMs), I've focused on higher elevations of the Alps, Rockies, Andes, and Himalayas (have had chance to visit these ranges in RW, with the exception of the Andes; maybe one day in future). Close to home, the Rockies range is my favorite, along with the Appalachians of the eastern U.S. In my several visits to Denver, I've visited the Rockies more often than the city of Denver itself...🙂... During the last few years of MSFS, I have explored these mountains in the SIM quite extensively and posted several accounts in the Screenshots Forum. I've found particularly fascinating to fly upstream along some of the major rivers of the World, all the way to their origin in the high mountains of the above ranges. Nothing is more daunting and challenging than e.g., tracking the mighty Brahmaputra River back to its (glacial) source in the densest of the Himalayas, up near 17,000 ft altitude. It's remarkable to observe how such a river, following the principles of gravity, guides itself down from such high elevations, twisting and turning in the mountains, finding the path of least resistance, and eventually bursting into the plains of South Asia, instantly breaking out into myriad channels. I have seen this place in RW, and it was equally fascinating re-visit in MSFS. Of course, for such mountainous flying, one needs to choose the a/c accordingly, one that's powerful and also maneuverable (a C172 will not do...🙂...); there are several excellent options in MSFS. Despite all this being virtual, as one is navigating the valleys in such dense and high mountains, constant situational (and altitude) awareness is a must, but it is quite a rewarding experience in mountain flying. Thanks for the comment and the videos. Cheers...!

Ini A340 display refresh rate
Hi: I'm glad you're enjoying the A340. I've flown this A340 many times with both E1S1 and E1S2 Configurations, actually, my favorite is the EIS1. I have everything in default setting and have not encountered any issues. Maybe, I am not as discerning a (virtual) pilot as you are ...🙂...Can you clarify what you mean by "CRT framerate display (EIS1) being low?" Maybe, then, someone else will chime in... I recall there are MSFS (level) Configuration setting(s) for display rate, but I've not had to adjust them for my purpose.

FSS 727P - any idea what I'm doing wrong or missing?
You're welcome, but, as far as I'm concerned, no credit is due to me. I simply (and directly) asked a non-human (un-named) friend of mine who happened to point me in the precise direction with precise answers. I do not own this airplane, though always been fond of it... BTW, @AJZip2, I was also led to the After-Start check list of FSS 727, where Radio Master switches are mentioned. It's Step 14 of the procedure (see below): "14 - RADIOS ON & CHECKED Ensure radio master switches are ON. Check audio selector switches are selected for ground service calls. Select proper frequencies in all communication and navigation equipment. Identify selected stations." And most significantly, Again...🙂... Have fun...!

KORD STAR's - How do I fly them?
Very nice and informative thread...for ORD Approach. Having lived ~30 years in Chicago, I find the flight paths approaching from the east i.e., (usually) over Lake Michigan along with a view of the skyline, fascinating. It's as if the airplanes (and the pilots) wish to give an excellent view of both the Lake and the skyline to the passengers ...🙂... I particularly recall one occasion, when in an evening thunderstorm, the flashes of lightning were reflecting off the dark waters of Lake Michigan below, as the airplane was banking and probably following one of the STARs mentioned above, and vectored westward into the final segment. @ryanbatc here has likely directed more than once the long-haulers I was myself travelling on, coming in from Europe, and overflying his control zone north of Chicago, before those flights track southward for the final stretch towards O'Hare. Thanks @11bee and all the answers provided in response.

Livestream of Vector 787 presentation at FSWeekend today
…🙂… QW released the 757 first in 2009. Then, after about a year, I recall, the 787 project was announced. And then, yes, the interminable wait followed that lasted ~6 years, especially difficult period for me, as you can guess…🙂… The P3D folks had to wait even longer. So, your 8-weeks here sounded dream-like.

FSS 727P - any idea what I'm doing wrong or missing?
Oh..OK… I don’t have this airplane, @AJZip2. BTW, I see mention of the two Radio Master Switches behind the Captain’s seat, in the circuit breaker panel, on the left wall, that must be ON… Could you check them…?

FSS 727P - any idea what I'm doing wrong or missing?
@AJZip2 Hi: You are saying that the VOR/LOC indication lights up green, but I don’t see it on the annunciation panel in your screenshot (unless I’m missing something), nor are the LOC (and GS) annunciations right above the ADI dial active. Are you really receiving (and capturing) the ILS signals? Could you try another (aka different) ILS approach with DME to see that you’re indeed getting the continuous readout of the DME distance in the cockpit?

Local Legend 23: Fokker F-27 Friendship
Some of us here are diehard fans of antique airplanes…🙂…A member here just posted about 727… How will we simmers fully appreciate the 737 Max cockpit, if we didn’t ever see the one in a 727…from where it all started…? Recently, I visited a RW (UAL) 727-100 and took a couple of photos of its flight deck, in the local Science Museum. Talk about antique…🙂…but fascinating nonetheless…to see how far we have progressed…

Coming to think of it, yes, I did detect such a strange noise, somewhere from the livestream audience…🙂… Anyway, jon, those RR Dart sounds, I love to hear…a smooth purr to some of us sim enthusiasts, while actually an aggressive (and high-pitched) roar, as you’ve hinted…🙂…I’ll be surely mindful of pets and plants nearby… Cheers…!

Livestream of Vector 787 presentation at FSWeekend today
So, the release window is the full year 2026… Yes, that’s a bit long (and 8 weeks of wait would be so nice), but it’s nothing compared to the 6 years, I/we had to wait for the QW 787. The original announcement was in 2010, and it was released for FSX first in 2017, followed by later in 2018, for P3D. The significant delay coincidentally mimicked the RW 787 launch in 2004, and the first (ANA) delivery in 2011. The QW 787 was the longest ever wait for me for an aircraft in the SIM. Of course, I could afford to wait lot longer those days…

MSFS2024 City Update 13 - California
Wow…15 years away… I could not last more than 5 months away, during my (otherwise continuous) 15 years FSX/SE span between 2006 and 2020…🙂… Anyway, stuff happens in our lives…so, understood… Regarding, “What’s PG?”, please search right here for threads. You’ll find plenty of good information, it has been covered in great detail. I could add more here, but, it’s kind of a bit of a sensitive topic…🙂… PG is just a matter of turning on or off, in the MSFS configuration, and then see for yourself. You’re the best judge of it. Good luck…!

Thanks. Group of 787 Pilots, 787 Mechanics, Artists, Developers, and SIMMERs … Sounds good, and looks good here. I would like to try those EDW windows…on this one…🙂… Yes, they have been at it for 1-year…seemingly with a complete set participants…
