This is awesome! Please keep it updated with your latest findings @JonathanC. Times are a changin' and more and more folks are feeling alienated by Microslop. Linux gaming is growing in popularity and new products like the MacBook Neo are going to get even more folks on non-Windows platforms.

I too think the cockpit visuals are pretty good, a solid “B” in my book. I’d rate the sounds even lower than you did, though. I don’t know why it is so hard for companies to get decent CF6 sounds, ini’s suck too. Barely passable grade for those. PWs are only marginally better. We really need Boris to do some CF6 sounds to show what’s possible! Overall I quite enjoy it. It’s part of the top, most used aircraft in my fleet among the various PMDG and Fenix birds.

I’d probably wait until you switch to SU5. The effect is not very good with 2024 SU4. I don’t know anything about modifying the effects themselves, sorry.

Honestly I have been pretty shy about advertising it since it still isn't working completely in 2024. Was hoping there would be more word of mouth from folks who enjoyed it. It gets a nice bump on the TO every week or so, but I suspect that will be over shortly unless I try to evangelize a bit. I do feel like a lot more people would enjoy it, but at the same time I don't want to be annoying about promotion.

Oh man oh man oh man. DarkStreets is saved! 😁 Fixed light exclusion polygons not working far away EDIT: This has not been entirely fixed- at cruise altitudes you can still see the effect a bit way out at a distance. It is way better though, and is at least passable, if they can't push out the range even farther.

Ugh fingers crossed they fix my streetlights exclusion LOD bug. 🫠

Hey, if he can put Mexico together in a day, all the power to him. I had been banging my head against it for almost a week until I came up with a decent result. Files should be up tonight or tomorrow at the latest, will post a link or something when it is ready.

Not at all. He probably saw this here though and wants to make a quick buck before the market is gone. This could have been accomplished for literal years so it is almost certainly not a coincidence. I plan to release the freeware package within a week, so it’s up to you if you want to spend money or not. Plus I will have Mexico and Canada.

The ones I am referencing with the bug are not baked in- you can see them disappear as you go forward and reappear behind you. They are light effects. They also acknowledged it was a bug and it is in their backlog. 🙃

If you’re flying low and slow it is fine, but if you are up more than a few thousand feet it’s probably suboptimal, until they fix the bug. If you’re high enough it won’t have any effect at all, since the sphere of effective LOD is above the ground. 😆 Fingers crossed they fix the bug soon. It looks great in 2020.

I am looking into Europe data a bit now, but it’ll probably be added after the first public release. 👍

Hello- In search of more realistic night flying, I've put together a scenery package, "MSFS DarkStreets", to remove street lights from rural areas in MSFS. As of now, I have builds for both 2020 and 2024, covering all of Mexico, US, and Canada. I am still making tweaks, hoping for a (freeware) public release within a couple weeks. I'd like to get more folks in to test it first, though. Please respond here if you're interested and I'll send you a link to the discord we're using to coordinate testing. Important to note!: Due to a LOD bug in the current version of the 2024 sim, this only affects the immediate area around your aircraft. Asobo has the bug logged and it is in their backlog to fix. Who knows when that will happen... 🙃 2020 has no such issues and works as expected out to the horizon.

I use chaseplane mainly to get the old spot plane view back that asobo removed for some stupid reason.

Now that chaseplane is here I finally moved over. Been a fun 6 years, 2020. 🫡

Finally we have a proper spot plane view and controls that don't lock when you pan. Can't thank the P42 team enough for doing Asobo's job for them. This is an absolute game changer that I have been waiting for since December 2019 Tech Alpha 1.

This looks like a wonderful start! Instant purchase here! I have shelved the maddog because the sounds are so bad, don't like FTSim's either. This is going to literally revive the aircraft for me. 🤩

I have been back in 2020 basically 100%. I wanted to try the "premium" A300 today in 24 and the experience has been awful. The lighting is so bad on my oled monitor- all the clouds are blown to smithereens, and the cockpit extremely dark. The scenery and clouds haven't looked any better, and the FPS is worse than 2020. It got me in a very disappointed mood, enough to look up the current steam numbers and yep, more people are still on 2020. Only a couple people in my VA are currently flying on 24, while many are using 20. This situation just sucks. I want to be excited about the future but what we currently have just ain't it. There are fundamental design problems with the sim, not to speak of all the bugs and performance issues.
