90 fps = too much fps in VR - I need a slower GPU

I'm probably just getting confused.  DLSS 310.5 is part of DLSS 4.5?

yes, easy to get confused here:

the DLL (dynamic link library) version is 310.5,  a small file and part of Nvidia's overall DeepLearningSuperSample technology. latest version 4.5

the DLL itself just got updated to 310.5.3, but DLSS is still 4.5

60-130 fps. no CPU overclocking.

very nice.

I think they must have gone to the Microsoft School of Confusing Terminology for a brush up on the techniques 😀

seriously, all I did is activate SMOOTH MOTION in NVidia APP with DLSS 4.5 (no Pimax Smooth Motion, OpenXR, STEAM VR  or whatever) and FOVEATED RENDERING in MSFS 2024 under VR settings with 50%.

Hi Turbomax,
thank you for your explaination. Hmm... I just disabled OpenXR and activated Developer Mode in order to see the FPS. In VR, it displayed 34 frames, but MSFS2024 crashes instantly as soon as I hit Ctrl+Space to center my PoV. Unfortunately, the Nvidia app does not count my frames  for some reasons, it just shows "-". So, I do not have a valid FPS counter at the moment.

I will try to dig deeper tomorrow. Too bad that I do not have enough time today. I will report back.

Best regards,
Holger

sometimes that happens for me too.

re. the crashes: another user in this forum had reported the same problem. it was due to loading GPU-Z and AutoFPS before MSFS. might have been resolved with the latest AutoFPS version. the developer ResetXPDR had posted something re. VRAM crashes in the earlier version.

FrameGen must be disabled if you are using NVIDIA SMOOTH MOTION IN VR, it is only one or the other.

p.s.

if you listed your hardware configuration in your signature it would be easier to identify hardware conflicts

Hi Turbomax,

I just found a couple of minutes before going to bed to give it another try. I found out that there must be an issue with a faulty OpenXR installation / setting on my end. As soon as I disable OpenXR, the sim runs on higher FPS in VR.

I do not use Developer Mode anymore. I reinstalled the Nvidia app, but the FPS counter is still buggy. It displays the FPS for a few seconds before going to zero. Then, I need to press Alt Z and Alt R again, check the frames for a few seconds before it goes to zero again.

However, flying in rural landscapes gives me 50 FPS on the ground and up to 65 FPS in the air. IMC conditions do not seem to have a noticable impact compared to VFR conditions. For a very short moment, 71 FPS where displayed.

I am quite happy with this result, which is much more than I got four weeks ago.  😉 Btw - I do not use AutoFPS or comparable apps.

I will try to refine some settings during the next day.

Thank you for your help.

P.S.: Regarding the specs: Our systems are very close to each other, except for the RAM (I just have 32 GB RAM and I wonder if another 32 GB would speed up the system - what do you think?).

no, if you don't run other memory intense applications in the background. Asobo said 32 GB is sufficient. you can check the games memory footprint in the developer mode: show fps, show download speed. it will also show current memory in use etc. on the bottom section:

Okay, so no need for another 32 GB RAM on my side.  🙂

Having 64GB of ram was a game changer for 2024 on my rig.  It's much smoother.
