Any reason *not* to go with an RX 7900 XTX at this point?

For 4K, you will still have the issue of 16GB VRAM for both the 5080 and the 9070(XT). It is simply not enough for a complex addon plane, airport scenery and AI traffic. I do have to use DLSS, AutoFPS with TLOD 50 plus some VRAM heavy settings on «high» instead of «ultra» to avoid the 16GB VRAM of my 4080 being flooded. With otherwise absolutely reasonable FPS using FG. Still really disappointed that the 5080 did not come with 24GB VRAM or an AMD variant with 24GB. It is a huge miss if you ask me and as such, I would still rather recommend the 7900XTX for MSFS2024 4K.

For 4K yes ... Vram 7900XTX is the best choice.

1440p though ... im personally  going to give the 9070XT a shot. I snagged one of the higher end total board power models (Asrock Taichi) from Newegg yesterday for 730.00. Currently my present card is not being blown out Vram or performance wise in both sims 2020/2024 so hopefully that remains the case as more stuff gets added to msfs2024. If not then ill just sell it and hopefully a card with more Vram shows up. But i know for sure i will not be getting a 5090 halo card for the money they are asking for.

Totally agree that it was disappointing that none of the new gen cars minus the 5090 had higher VRAM. That said, personally, I'm at 3440x1440, not 4K, and I am crossing my fingers that 16GB VRAM will be enough.

I have a 4080 super. I had issues with vram running  the fenix and larger airports. Reduced texture resolution to high and now have good performance. VRAM climbs  up to 15.4 gb, but running smooth lately. I’m very close to buying a 7900xtx for the vram, but the 4080 super seems to be doing good now. I would like the vram, but am worried about 7900 xtx vs 4080 super while below 16gb of vram. Gonna have to make a decesion soon!

From what I have seen, the 4080 and 7900XTX should be pretty even in performance, but the XTX with more VRAM, as you point out.  You do lose DLSS, though, so you have to decide if that matters to you.

there is FSR 3 frame generation in sim update 2 beta. You can always go for lossless scaling app.

  • 2 weeks later...

Both Nvidia and AMD going down the Fake Frames route. For future performance you can only crank the power so far, AMD can pull up to 500w if it`s pushed.

I had the 7900XT (20 gig version) and when I upgraded to Win11 I could not get the drivers to work properly with Win11.

So I replaced it with a 5070ti and all is now fine. CPU is a 7800x3d.
