How is the DC Designs Concorde These Days?

Featured Replies

Hello, this is currently on sale (30% off at Just Flight and 50% in the marketplace).

I’ve always kind of had my eye on it, but haven’t pulled the trigger.

I’m curious to hear from those who bought it, how has it held up for you over time?  Still in regular use or relegated to the back of your hangar?

I know the graphics in the cockpit were a sore spot for some but an update is coming.

How complex is it to fly?  Given its niche era world routes I expect it’s something I’d fly occasionally.  Can it be left alone in cruise or does it require regular monitoring/ input / fuel management?

Thanks for any insights.

Dave

I haven't flown it all that much, not because of anything wrong with it but because I tend to gravitate to stuff that I can complete a flight with in an hour or less these days because of real-world time pressures.

I enjoy it when I fly it. The instructions say you have to shift fuel around the way they did in the real plane but honestly, I've done flights where I haven't bothered and I got it up to Mach 2 with no problem. I don't know that I'd get it up to cruise and then go mow the lawn or something, but it's not a plane where you have to have your hands on the controls every second.

It's one of the few planes I auto-start. I fly exclusively in VR and the camera controls in MSFS are obnoxious enough that it's more bother than it's worth to switch back and forth between the FE and Captain's positions. Also, I fly it so infrequently that I never remember the start procedure anyway.

The biggest graphics issue I had is that the secondary (high speed) windshield doesn't register with the sim as a windshield, which means if you fly through rain, it will unrealistically pass through the high speed windshield and hit the primary one. I suspect that's a sim thing though - it's probably not set up to be able to recognize more than one windshield for the rain layer. They might have patched that out by now, though. It's been a while.

Especially at 50% off I think it's worth it as a fun plane where you can get supersonic and not be in a fighter - just don't expect "study level."

How about the CIVA INS ? Is it accurately modeled ? Like manual input, drifting, dual INS and such ?

Much as I like Concorde in the real world, it's never grabbed me in a flight simulator. I'll be interested in the upgrade for the DC model, however - it might be enough to sway me.

Surely not everybody was kung fu fighting.

Nope. No CIVA INS. It was promised and never delivered. No updates on this addon in well over a year (since after SU11). I hate to say it but it deserves most of the hate that it gets. I believe there are fuel pump bugs caused by sim updates that make it somewhat unpredictable and unflyable depending on which tanks are filled up.

Thank you for your very clear answer. Definitely a no-buy for me then.
