3D Rain - Remove Streaking Effect

Featured Replies

Hi Everybody,

Is there a way I can turn off the 3D rain streak effect, the animation looks nasty. I found I can resize the rain drops using a LUA (set("sim/private/controls/rain/scale", 0.40)) script, but haven't found a way to remove the streaking. I was able to remove the streaking using the developer menu, but that seems to be broken in the latest beta.

Thanks

You know the drill. If something broke due to an X-Plane update that used to work before said update: File a bug report.

Not sure if this is what you are looking for but this remove the visual for the falling rain while keeping the windshield rain effect.

set("sim/private/controls/rain/kill_3d_rain", 1)

I think there's an lua script that can remove the black lines on the effect on the org-not sure if you can disable it

Hi,

Thanks, that gets rid of the Star Wars black streaks. I'm trying to remove the streaks that appear on the windscreen without removing the 3d rain drops.

Thanks everybody.

You mean you want to have drop impacts, but not drops running off due to airstream?

That's not possible.

Hi,

It was possible using the developers menu in XP12, but that menu seems to be broken in the latest release. Was hoping I could use a lua script to turn that on/off just as I've resized the rain droplets via LUA script. This rain effect may not be all that great, but it's far better than the black star wars rain effect.

As you can see in the video, the airstream effect has been removed.

Hi Everybody,

The latest update from L/R has fixed the developers issue on my end. I think I have the 3D rain dialed in pretty good. I'm also happy with my latest night lighting edits, not going to touch them with this beta update they look good enough.

Would you care to share the steps you took to do this?

Hi Jay,

Still working on it, once complete I'll release the setup. Should be a copy and overwrite a few files and you'd be done.
