very nice, thanks! and yes to everything.

another aspect is headset comfort, or the lack thereof. in addition to increase in resolution, we need smaller and lighter headsets. fortunately both is coming.

in that chart, G2 is only 19ppd? I thought G2 should be higher than Quest2 and Vivo Pro, based on the reviews I read.

9950X3D / 64GB / RTX5090 / Pimax Crystal Light / Win11

I think they're counting the Q2's total panel res, not accounting for the need to crop it for IPD adjustment.

Vive pro 2 has a slightly higher res than g2 if I remember right. VP2 lenses are it's let down and probably why people didn't appreciate it's higher ppd

It's easy to get caught up in all the fun math regarding pixels, and degrees, etc.  With digital cameras it's called megapixel madness.  People think 30 MP will always be better than 20, until they see a 20MP image from through a good (Canon/Nikon) lens.

Same with VR.  The G2 may have more pixels, but the lenses are word not allowed, and about 2/3 of the image area is blurry.  Some say it just has a small sweet spot, which is a nice way of saying most of the image is our of focus and there's nothing you can do about it.  I won't even get into the cable fiasco.

So, I'll say it....good lenses are more important than PPD.  Marketing guys hate this statement, because $ spent on pixels are much easier to market/hype than $ spent on lenses.

I learned this when I went to FSExpo and tried a Varjo Aero.  Then did some research and shelved my G2 for a Quest Pro...with fewer pixels.

Ooo !  I was also at flightsim expo 2023.  I didn't try varjo there because I already have it at home.  I tested the pimax crystal there and I really didn't like its ergonomics.  I gave my G2 to a friend because the tiny sweetspot is absolutely not suitable for a VR experience.  I just bought a quest pro and really hope that with good screens, better colors, local dimming, quality lenses and software, the qp will become my main vr headset for a year or two.  I haven't figured out yet whether I can somehow use hand tracking to move the mouse cursor.  That would be a nice bonus

Garber Sergey

I bought a third party face gasket that make G2 sit closer to my eyes and that seems to improve the tiny sweet spot quite a bit. But still, there is no way to get around the fact that G2 sweet spot is pitiful. I'm used to it and even justify it by considering that being forced to move my head around is good for my neck.

I'm waiting for a VR headset that is a clear upgrade from G2: better lens, higher PPD, better image quality, easy and robust software setup, and does not require any base station etc. Guess I'll have to wait a few more years.

still got fingers and toes crossed for quest 3, even with it's non pc-vr caveats

... and some more hope that it may be dual lcd (and not a single)

I read you can buy new lenses for the G2.  I'm not impressed with the image quality of the G2 either.  It feels like playing an arcade game unless I'm focused on something directly in the sweet spot

VR IQ still feels very very far away from my 1440p monitor.

no new optical replacement lenses, but add-on prescription lenses for people who normally need reading glasses, and not only for HP G2 but for almost any VR headset:

Looks like a Quest 3 is out in the wild if interested in a read

lol, we still don't know if it uses one or two panels 😄

Edited by dogmanbird

For us PC users, we have to use either USB-C link or airlink to connect Quest to PC. Someone said b/c image compression, image quality in Quest can be degraded, and latency can be bad too. Waiting for reviewers to say whether this is an issue for Quest 3.

I'd imagine there'd still be some degradation, but I guess we'll find out soon enough 🙂

With the two panels, it'll be close to G2 resolution (maybe plus a little loss from compression) but with great lenses, at about g2 price or less, plus all the other goodies.

I'm more excited for this than other recent headsets 👍
