Why does my Xplane 12 look so dreadful?

Featured Replies

Infact, I am not aware of it when using X-Plane.

As it has been discusses here already, it occurs on 1080p displays.

Another video where it is obvious (skip to the landing):

that was marked as fixed and confirmed as fixed by the people who reported it (actually reported it, with screenshots showing it actually not working and the mechanism for others to recreate it) over a month ago.

So what makes you think any issue you have is the same thing they had?

Logically it's not. Because I see it in the latest version and many others constantly report it on various platforms.

exactly, and since Im not the only one pointing out there is nothing "absolutely awful" in the videos you have posted, perhaps its time you watch them on a different display - e.g. your phone.

This isnt denying anything, there are other issues due to be fixed "soon", but your determination really sounds to me as if something is going wrong in your set up that is degrading the quality of both xplane and the videos far beyond what is actually wrong with xplane.

What do you think it will happen if you watch a RECORDING on a different display? It will magically upscale that 1080p? LOL

You'll see it in not 640x480 / 256 color if that is what you display is doing.

There are a lot of them though

https://www.gadgetreview.com/why-is-my-tv-pixelating#what-is-tv-pixelating

the most notorious is trying to do 4K over HDMI, where the display can drop into a heavily degraded mode (varies by manufacturer, e.g. switching to 640x480 or 256 colour) if it thinks you are trying to play a pirated film.

there is also

Dude, there's a difference between playing the game and watching a recording of the gameplay. I can't believe I have to explain this to a guy that's involved in development.

For the record, I watched the mentioned videos on my 4k tv, 4k phone and 2k monitor at work, no difference.

And as you might notice, everyone else just stopped arguing with you. It's pointless.

Why do you assume graphical issues lie with everything and everyone before Laminar? All I see is, its windows fault, it's the hdmi cable's fault, it's the monitor's fault.

I have a 4090, that I use with 3 display ports. Flipping between the HDMI port and Display port makes no difference for me. Whatever shimmering and AA issues I've seen exists regardless of the cable transmitting the signal. I'm assuming they are working on fixing things and your hdmi argument will be just another moot point.

really? not that I have ever seen, how do you think it tells the difference?

The top screenshot was turned into the bottom screenshot by switching the cables from HDMI to DisplayPort (only the user complaining about the poor anti alaising and red in the clouds could see it)

There are two distinct types of issues in this thread.

Those which were already written up at the beginning of May

https://www.x-plane.com/2023/05/whats-new-in-x-plane-12-05-and-12-06-short-term-roadmap/

and those which apparently are not addressed by that blog post and cant be seen in screenshots or videos.

Is it really that hard to understand which of them I'm having trouble "seeing" from under that rock?

Are you REALLY asking this? Are you really asking that something that has been RECORDED ON VIDEO directly with a screen recorder, not through a camera, hdmi port or whatever, is not actually there?

Here, I did a screenshot of the video. And this will be the last time I'm responding to this insanity.

I see low res blue lines on the dashboard?

That is loading low res images into vram. duscussed in the blog post.

everything else looks fine, lines are crisp, colors are normal.

yes.

because the issues I am referring to are not in either xplane or the video recording of it or the screenshots of either.

They are in the memory of whatever device is being used to turn them into light, and are only visible to the person using that physical device, or people with devices with similar issues, no one else.

The only way for others to see them is to take a photo/video of the actual screen.

There are lots of these, many intermittent (come and go) I have helped several people resolve them over the years (4K over hdmi two or three times), that earlier video you posted where he says "ignore the shimmering" is likely an example, because my displays were not doing anything at all that could be described as shimmering.

well, the lines are crisp in the screenshot, even zoomed in there are no individual pixels, I cant even see an decent example of the to be fixed downscaling I posted on the first or second page of this thread.

All I got is that your display must be borken, running in 256 colour instead of 16million colour coming from using 4K over HDMI would do that, but since you insist it looks the same on other displays, maybe its just your eyes that are broken...
