Orbx Recommendations?

Featured Replies

Greetings and Happy Holidays, all!

As the title says, I'm looking for recommendations for Orbx products for MSFS...both sceneries and airports.

Cheers,

Scott

Products actually made by Orbx or just any products they have for sale on their store regardless of developer ?

Some of the early ORBX MSFS releases are port-overs from FSX/P3D. That sometimes is visible in lower texture resolutions.
I have Cityscape Singapore and that is a great scenery add-on but London for instance had worse buildings than the Asobo ones in the first release. Upon customer feedback, they disabled their own in favor of the default Asobo buildings.

So, watch carefully you don't pick up a rushed port-over from another sim.

Very satisfied with the Himalaya/Central Asia mesh and the Dubai cityscape.

They're just not as amazing as they were in fsx/p3d.  And yes there are a lot of portover sceneries.  I have both BUR and SBA - the textures are not great when you park up close to a building.  There is a little one I think by Russ White - Fall City perhaps that is great for GA and looks pretty good.

Ultimately, it depends on where you like to fly...  The Samscene3d cityscapes are all good, as are the little Orbx airports scattered throughout the world..  I happen to like the Pacific North West, so KORS and Vancouver city are important to me.. but if you fly in a different area... who knows..   BTW, it looks to me that buying directly from the developer may save some money at the cost of multiple stores to keep track of.  😉

I have a lot of Orbx addons. In particular I recommend the Pyreguee airports and the mesh addons.

Hands down Mackay aiport (YBMK) in Queensland, Australia. Absolutely love this place.

As has been said above it quite depends on where you fly and how. Here's my favourite airports available at Orbx Central. Maybe one or two of them will be interesting for you.

Aerosoft's EBBR Brussels, for me, is hands down the best-looking airport scenery and a must if you enjoy flying airliners (their EDDK Cologne Bonn is quite nice as well but not as good as Brussels)

FlyTampa's airports are consistently top-notch and generally not too heavy on the frames compared to other highly detailed airports. Probably the best dev overall.

KLAS Las Vegas: cityscape is included (great night lighting), nice custom road traffic and moving shuttle

LGAV Athens (amazing night lighting, animated passengers in the terminal buildings and moving trains)

YSSY Sydney

EKCH Copenhagen

CYYZ Toronto Pearson

KBOS Boston

LGKR Corfu (a bit pricey for such a small airport)

Pyreegue's airports are nice as well, especially the ones in the UK.

EGAA Belfast (probably the best of them but rather small)

EGPH Edinburgh

EGPH Glasgow

In my opinion they're not up there with Brussels or some of FlyTampa's airports, but they're certainly worth the purchase

Some others I quite like:

KDCA Washington Reagan (Drzewiecki Design): Nice terminal building and great approach (Rwy 19)

LOWS Salzburg (Digital Design): Loads custom buildings around the airport and in the city

LOWW Vienna (Gaya)

LOWI Innsbruck (Orbx): Loads custom buildings around the airport and in the city

LFPO Paris Orly (Jetstream Designs):

LFLL Lyon-Saint Exupéry (Digital Design): nice railway station, animated people in terminals

If you like flying in New Zealand I would also recommend the NZ mesh. A huge improvement over the default mesh, especially since it almost completely eliminates morphing

Unfortunately quite a few of these airports are not currently on sale at Orbx Central, but they are on other websites.
