X-Plane 12: Why X-Plane is hands down the best ... (part 3)

your clip just looks like a kid playing an arcade game.

Shock horror, you can have fun with X-Plane as well as use it as a deadly serious aviation tool, and android, ipad, xbox and playstation are pretty much in direct competition with each other. Said that already.

And I'll tell you what, XP12 is now not just "hands down the best" for the serious stuff, its also getting very very close to competing successfully with the other ~20 year old bit of PC software that I use a lot to kill time

If Mach 1 through The Loop feels leisurely to you, then you're not flying low enough.

Through the corners it takes skill to get up 400 or 500 knots, but there are plenty of long straights where the F14 (with structural failure disabled) is more than capable of hitting mach 2.

Surely you understand the meaningful difference that comes with going twice as fast.

All this has nothing to do with how any particular simulator is used

Well, tbh, there isn't much fun to be had with XP11 - not a game its a simulator is much more true there than for XP12 - the new hud system showcased in the F14 goes a long way to enabling X-Plane to be used for the fun stuff:

So OK the .mil guys be using it in a very serious manner for the big bucks, but they have a lot of fun doing so

Ah, more pure emotional commentary without any factual data behind it.

Mobile is more than 60% of the Global Market Share while PC and Console make up less than 40% of the global gaming combined.  Mobile has taken over the market and continues to gain market share not lose.

It's also the fastest growing market segment and the fact it is studied as it's own market segment and is outgrowing PC and Console "together" speaks to the state of that "competition."  Then there is the actual market share. There are ~130- 151M XBoxes ever sold, ~20M XBox series X/S and 117M PS5's in the world.  Care to guess how many mobile phones?  7.26Billion.   Over 90% of the global population has access to XPlane mobile and 5M chose to download it , what's that like 1% of total addressable market?  With a TAM of 7Bn users pretty sure XPlane should have FAR more than 5m users if they were "competing"

Kudos to Austin for seeing that market potential but in the mobile world Flight Pilot 3D has over 100M downloads and 2.7M reviews compared to 5M downloads and  140K reviews for XP over all mobile releases over the years...

So when you actually dissect the numbers that comparison to a first person shooter you made is pretty irrelevant (oh wait, it was irrelevant to begin with) and that 5M number you keep throwing around is actually pretty poor showing if you look at the data behind it not just the number and consider the TAM for that 5M is actually 7Bn...   Somehow those critical details and facts seem to elude your posts.

Who wants silly facts when we can have emotion with no data or factual basis behind it though...

Now, should we revisit total user counts with all the data compiled?  Nah, not necessary people "should" be able to deduce that on their own looking at the "data" provided.

Oh no ... not again this dreaded "sales figures" BS. If I remember correctly (but I might be wrong *), the topic had something to do with the plane gear. As usually, threads get derailed. Time to close this one. -> @Ray Proudfoot
