Night lighting - pitch dark clouds / overcast ?

Anyway, something similar to what you're referring to was also modeled in past X-Plane versions, with strobe lights causing dazzle in fog/clouds. I don't know if current XP versions is still modeling it though.

MSFS has cloud illumination from all angles.  The other night I flew with a full moon just above a stratus layer....  it was very realistic.... and then I descended below the clouds and saw the city lights bouncing off the base of the clouds.

I don't doubt XP12 will get there - that experimental volumetric lighting is awesome.
