Xplane Next Generation (FSexpo)

Featured Replies

Really glad with what I have seen from LR in this presentation. I admit I got scared when they started with the F14 and the TopGun stylemusic though.. My first though was, they are trying to reach an audience that is already catched by competition in an area completely out of their reach out. Luckly this was not.true!

This brings to the table what was missing for XP12 to continue as a base Simulation platform for using 3rd party quality addons. Dynamic Weather System, Beautiful Volumetric Clouds (Prettier than the competition from some angles), and a more living world. For me thats plenty for XP12 to continue in the business, if you care more than anything about having the scenery Msfs2020 has, and the flightmodel and other areas doesnt bother you, you are definitely not the Xplane target audience, and shouldnt bother with XP12.

Cant wait to see good quality addons running on a modern updated Sim platform!

Well. MSFS does have water waves.  now the rest of the list is interesting but I am going to go back to all the point I have made so far. Lots of improvement except lighting department. Big letdown. Everything else. Looks decent

I actually agree with you on the lighting.

I think it's the main thing that should be improved, and still not at the level of the competition. All the rest of the new features are really solid, and on par or better than the competition.

One thing I am a bit disappointed it no multi player support from day 1.  They even have this in the mobile version.

System Spec 1: Nvidia RTX 4090,  AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D, Res 5120x1440, HP Reverb G2
System Spec 2: AMD Radeon RX 7900XT, Intel I-9 9990K, Res 3840x1080, HP Reverb G2

I'm guessing it's coming... look how much XP11 changed from 11.00 to 11.55... a lot of things will be added or changed during the 12 cycle.. and this is something in the mobile version

Id say the new lighting is still broken. There were one or two clips with it on, the rest didnt afaict.

They also didnt actually show the snow did they?

So its a double edged sword.

They are all in for a huge XP12 release (also, its officially called XP12 now) which is shaping up to be an actual game changer.

My ban from the org and Greazer getting labeled a troll for saying not to expect it any time soon was mostly people hating on the messengers of unpleasant truths.

but why showcase it if it still broken ? I am sure things will improved before release but this not showcasing xP12 the way it should have been showcase. Some might say it was not shown in the best light....pun intended

Could you actually make anything of Austin's LSD trip during his video?

Eheheh, the whole team actually looked like that :-), each on it's own, if you look at their faces while talking 🤣

It's the pressure to get all of this in time for the Expo ...

Flying gliders since 1980

Flightsimming since 1992

AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)

I think we need to see more of it all in action, not just tiny snippets but the ATC improvements and seasons are reasons to keep watching. Unfortunately otherwise I don't see much here to attract users back, but certainly XP purists can be pleased with the incremental improvements over XP11. The clouds are better but in no way up to the competition (form what we've seen here), but the huge let-down for me is the lighting. I can't see much in the stream that looks like any improvement over XP11 unless I missed something?

Its obviously still in heavy development, so one developer will have say trees, another lighting and yet another the puddles, but no one machine with all three, and at any one moment its unlikely all three would work at the same time.

plus some videos made before other features were even working at all (e.g. lots of old water in there).

Showing off a final product with a release date was not this presentation.

They showed what they are committed to delivering over the life of XP12.

Has any footage of clouds moving with the wind been shown yet?

Add procedural grass and other related terrain shaders and this scenery system is 10/10, I suspect they are working on that but not yet ready to show it all together.

Those are the first visual features where XP12 promises to be better than the competition.

There is an important feature I kept hearing about all these and more in the presentation that you might want to consider adding to the list if you agree. It seemed to me that every single new feature is driven by the reality of the aviation world first and foremost. In other words, what you see or hear is thought from a pilot/aviator perspective. They explained the differences in wear and tear on the ground for example which is based on the material type but also what kind of servicing around (like FUEL if I understood correctly). Or the runway engine placing the markings precisely based on FAA and ICAO standards/rules.

Maybe they didn't manage to postpone FSExpo for 6 months just for them?

Otherwise I agree the lighting is improved in these videos but maybe not fully complete. After all, Ben has posted a blog about the new lighting system only a month ago (about) where he explains they'll implement a physically correct lighting engine. So what they've shown is most likely the early phases of it only.
