Co-pilot has taken over?

Featured Replies

I don't exactly remember where I saw this, but it was on a video on youtube that this message showed up on the user's screen while flying. I'm not talking about the tutorial that teachers you how to fly and you handover the controls to the co-pilot. This was completely different. It was a user handflying and then somehow the message popped up saying co-pilot is in control or something like that. Does this mean the co-pilot is smart enough to handle the flight and how does one do this?

Tried that and it did not give me that message. But anyhow, what exactly happens when you let AI control the aircraft? Do they just continue to fly in the path that it was previously in, or does it have a mind of its own and fly randomly around the area?

If you've set a destination airport, it will take off, fly there and land, then taxi. (if it doesn't go berserk and kill you)

Wow, so it will actually fly the entire flight plan from start to finish? That's actually impressive! So I can choose a plane like a 747, create a flight plan, and turn on AI, and it will do everything?

Yup

I see Orbit Airlines hasn't changed.

Take-offs are optional, landings are mandatory.
The only time you have too much fuel is when you're on fire.
To make a small fortune in aviation you must start with a large fortune.

There's nothing less important than the runway behind you and the altitude above you.
It's better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air, than in the air wishing you were on the ground.

This entire quick flight was all the copilot. I was focused on recording the framerate and getting good shots of the flight, not actually flying myself.

Last night I created and flew a flight plan from KLAX to KSFO in the 787 airliner. The AI took off, climbed out and flew all the way to the KSFO runway, where it executed a missed approach. It then circled back around, and crashed into the water just short of the runway.

Mildly realistic. I think a Japanese DC-8 did the same thing a half century ago.

Interesting AI taxi logic. 😄

Give people power to really test their personality.

I just used it using the A320 on a flight from MHTG to KMIA.

The co-pilot attempted a no-flaps takeoff, didn't rotate, and slammed into trees at the end of the runway at about 170 knots.

I was watching the entire flight from the cabin wingview yelling "rotate! rotate!" as we screamed by the TDZ markers. The subsequent fireball was pretty swift, fortunately.

The interesting thing about those sorts of events is that if you try it again, it might go absolutely perfectly. Giving no clue as to why it failed previously.

Keyboard Shortcut (Toggle) for this is CTRL ALT X

I have noticed if you do not Toggle it back to you (the pilot) after you have landed and finished. The Co-Pilot will still be in charge on your next flight.

Indeed. I've done repeated runs between London City and Heathrow simply because the differing results can be mildly hilarious.

I've had landing gear damage at takeoff because the pilot didn't bother to rotate until it was too late.

I've had the pilot do everything near perfect for 5-6 minutes then completely lose the plot and head somewhere else.

I've had perfect runs until the approach to Heathrow where we've either ploughed into the runway or tried to go around before veering off course and aiming for the nearest grassy common.

And then i've had a couple of near flawless runs too.
