August 16, 20205 yr I wonder what the download speeds will be on release day when everyone downloads the game at the same time. It is 2020 and Microsoft doesn't allow you to preload the sim before launch day... Going to be fun waiting for half a day to download.

That is what worries me is thousands downloading at the same time from Microsoft servers worldwide. 100GB to download normally doesnt take long but I am sure it will take hours or you are not able to download at all because the server is bombarded with download requests.

From what someone told me on another thread, a few million servers are used for the DL of the game. Nonetheless, I am waiting up until midnight, hitting the play button seeing the DL rate and then nodding off for a few hours in hopes that its done! i9 11900K @ 5.3 RTX 3070TI 8GB 32 GB RAM @ 4200 GHZ 1 TB SSD 1080p G-Sync 27" Monitor

I’ll check the size of the install when im on the computer next. (E: it’s 1gb lol) Based on the speed I’ve downloaded other games on game pass that’ll take about 25 mins. I doubt Microsoft are going to have a problem with download speeds considering the existing infrastructure. Edited August 16, 20205 yr by Anthracite
August 16, 20205 yr Guy, we do not talk about 60 millions of users here...this is not Fortnite or Call of Duty. Its still a niche...and MS is one of the biggest cloud services for industry out there, do you think some Flight Simmers can break this down? 🤣 Regards, Jan Ast Win 11 PC | Ryzen 7800 X3D | RTX 5080 | LG 42 C2 Cockpit 😉 | TrackIR 5 | Octavia IFR-1 | Virpil Alpha on WarBRD, Virpil CM3 Throttle, Virpil Sharka Control Panel | Honeycomb Alpha & Bravo | TM TPM Rudder
August 16, 20205 yr Sheesh. Don't worry about MS' capacity for your little download. After all they service about 1.5 billion users of windows which regularly receive updates. They have a huge infrastructure and really have been growing for years building particularly their corporate delivery and management systems. Ryzen 7 5800x, 64gb, 7900XTX 24gb

I read it mentioned somewhere that MSFS is a fantastic demo for the capabilities of Microsoft's Azure platform. If they can pull of downloading and terrain streaming on such a mass scale, imagine what they can do for data driven business applications? That's where they'll get the real income.

MS has been doing that ever since the rollout of Azure over the past few years. 😏 Fr. Bill AOPA Member: 07141481 AARP Member: 3209010556 Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
