August 15, 20205 yr Dont get me wrong Ill enjoy the heck out of this sim but really picky when it comes to the night environment Rich Sennett

At the current date that means this is nautical twilight not night. The night begins about an hour later. To be expected I guess MS sent beta out to first person shooters - 95% YT folks dont have a clue or even used a flight simulator before makes no sense to me Rich Sennett
August 15, 20205 yr I don't quite understand why you didn't look at the parameters first before complaining about the night depiction. The new sim even simulates light pollution from cities. So if you want to see a full night in the sim you have to fly above a desert or an ocean at the appropriate time for your position, taking into account the time during it really is night. If I were to fly around Norway this time of the year it might get dark, but technically night never comes, because the sun is not travling low enough below the horizon. And in an aircraft the height above ground has also be taken into accound. When you are high enough it might still be twilight at FL300 while it is night on the ground.

Night lighting isn't the only comparison point and to be honest, the overall appearance of MSFS 2020 is far above and beyond any of the other sims, including X-Plane. Or is the sim time set such that it is not completely dark yet? But that can't be, because if you keep watching the video to the end, the night sky remains milky and doesn't get genuinely dark. If this doesn't get corrected, then this doesn't look very realistic. While P3D exaggerates with the brightness of the stars, the milky way and the clouds, in this video it looks like the sun hasn't completely set. Of all Microsoft Flight Simulators, FS2004 is the one who got the night lighting done right in my opinion. If MS won't correct it, at least I hope that there will be shader add-ons available that will do it. I saw a polish dudes twitch stream and it was very dark. I wonder if this is because city night pollution with low altitude flying.

August 15, 20205 yr How many of you have actually flown in the dark in a light aircraft? Because you would be surprised how much the lights from the towns/cities reflect from the clouds and cast a glow in the sky.
August 15, 20205 yr I don’t see a problem there no. It looks like the sky looks at around the time the guy was flying, particularly with all the light pollution.

Heck, I can see the same thing in my front yard with the lights from the nearby town! Good to see a sim finally modeling it. Have we ever had this in any other sim? Hook Larry Hookins Oh! August 15, 20205 yr Author Why don't we take a look at the real world for comparison? Here is one video showing a night approach above London. I see light pollution reflected from the clouds, but the sky is black. Looks definitely darker than in the sim.
August 15, 20205 yr Sorry but unless you’re a real world pilot (certified to fly at night) or an expert on atmospheric conditions then you shouldn’t be telling anyone that the night lighting needs correcting. Making their judgements based on previous sims or what they believe it should be like is counter productive and should be ignored.

And are you taking into account the camera that’s taking this footage and it’s settings? All that effects what you’re seeing.

August 15, 20205 yr Just watched this video. It's set about an hour and a half before sunrise but looks very dark to me.
August 15, 20205 yr Unless you're using a calibrated screen to view these videos, you shouldn't even be commenting. With different backlighting, contrast, saturation, gamma settings, were probably all seeing something different.
