Nobody ever said that they were interested in the mystical imagined FS2020. It’s a simple mistake! A little “I noticed you called it FS2020, but I just wanted to let you know that the correct acronym is actually MSFS” would be better taken, better appreciated, and more effective in general. No need to be snarky; again, we’re all here for the same reason 🙂

August 7, 20205 yr So, I'm going to start with a question: Of the two, Flight simulator and Farming simulator, which would most people say promises to be the most "boring." For myself, I think a good majority might guess farming simulator... yet that title actually consistently sells millions of copies. It might be an interesting exercise to figure out to whom. Who, exactly is buying each new release of this fascinating and exciting title? Who exactly, is purchasing the millions of copies sold, of Truck Simulator, pulled in by the exhilaration of driving an eighteen wheeler from place to on the worlds endlessly stimulating highway systems? Who are the people procuring such rousing titles as Kerbal Space Program, uncontrollably attracted by the indescribable stimulation of plotting orbital trajectories? The list of "boring" titles selling and doing quite well is nearly endless, (and extremely varied) and those titles are by and large used and enjoyed by millions of just plain folk of the type that people on sites like this regularly dismiss and underestimate for our own purposes. What draws people to these slow moving and often quite detailed titles? My answer would be presentation. As I have said before, in various posts over the years, I've never accepted the community myth(s) about public disinterest in aviation. There are to many counter-indicators to list. I've always maintained that its how we present the subject/hobby to the masses, and frankly, super enthusiasts of the "study-sim" variety often make flying seem like possibly one of the most boring endeavors imaginable, only approached correctly after burying ones face in several Gideon bible sized tomes-o-boredom, subject to disgusted ridicule by the knights-who-say-ni should newcomers commit the unforgivable faux pas of neither knowing nor caring about the proper care and feeding of an FMC. ✈️ A good example of this would be the unending and completely merciless scorn heaped from every direction upon videos created by testers gauche enough to happily display their lack of community acceptable flying skills to the world. Why (it was endlessly asked) did MS let these clowns in, when they had a choice of inviting our magnificent selves instead? Nothing elitist about that attitude at all........... 🤔 And this feeds right back into the longstanding community-wide disdain, underestimation and scorn directed towards the much maligned gamer's. It seems fairly clear that there are quite a few people within this hobby not at all attracted by the prospect of large, perhaps overwhelming numbers of such people showing up and possibly gaining enough influence to alter the shape (and even focus) of the quiet backwater called Flight simulation. As part of that, we console ourselves that they would never come anyway. Heck, they are not only not interested, they are not even capable. (Low attention spans and other negative stereotypes are thrown around to support this) And of course, we all know that Microsoft has spent years of time and effort on this project because we are just sooooo desirable (and deserving) just on our lonesome. Sure, maybe there'll be perhaps a few waves of annoying gamer's passing through temporarily, but certainly everything will go back to just like it was, afterwards........ right? Right? Lets find out. We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically. Sure, maybe there'll be perhaps a few waves of annoying gamer's passing through temporarily, but certainly everything will go back to just like it was, afterwards........ right? Right? Lets find out. Just to make you aware, while I'm here stating that I believe casual gamers will not be interested in MFS after the initial play and they will get bored, I'm not one stating they shouldn't come or shouldn't be here. I'm not a 'simmer' nor do I own a gaming PC or even a PC. I play consonles and own a PS4 and Xbox One. The last flight simulator I played was MFS 2000 which I just used to mess about on. Just like I'll be doing on this new one. How long it keeps me occupied remains to be seen. But my opinion is coming from a gamer such as myself.
August 7, 20205 yr I think the real question is not if MSFS will attract the casual gamers. Given the number of pre-orders on Steam that has already been answered. The real question is if MSFS will attract and retain enough people to be considered a mainstream game? I can't predict, either that it will or that it won't. While it probably won't reach Minecraft status, it will likely be popular. These casual gamers will find ways to use MSFS that even the developers can't imagine. It's gonna be interesting. August 7, 20205 yr Sorry, I do apologize for trying to promote the correct name of the sim. Somehow people are using FS20, FS2020, MSFS2020 when MSFS, the correct name, also as corrected by the guys at Aerosoft, is fully accepted. Just me, really, I just prefer doing thing the right way. Shawty1984 mentions Farm Simulator, whose short form name is coincidently FS20 & the Aerofly flight sim is also known as FS2020. (shrug!) Robin "Onward & Upward" ... To the Stars, & Beyond...

But in any case that's got nothing to do with the current situation for MS, or the gaming industry at present, or the flight sim market at present, or current technology, or what can be done with it.
