Sorry, but I think this is not correct. As the system restore says: "Any programs that were added since the last restore point will be deleted and any programs that were removed will be restored." Thus you would get back the 2.7.0.0 trainer. Here is an example: Edited June 8, 20206 yr by hjsmuc Added picture Hans
June 8, 20206 yr Author I will apologize for posting while I was angry and frustrated. There was a possible solution but unfortunately I had cleaned up files from previous installs. I was able to install trainer 2.6.6.2 and that got the GTNs working in my other flight simulators but I was not able to install a version of the Reality XP GTN that matched that trainer. So unfortunately I am back to 2.7.1.0 and the latest Reality XP GTN. As to blaming Reality XP, I was expressing my frustration with trying to keep two different versions of the GTN software up to date. Thinking about the suggestion to change completely over to Reality XP I would certainly do that if my other aircraft would support it. In the future, if all of my aircraft eventually support the Reality XP software I will certainly make the switch over. I posted my frustration on both forums, the support for F1 and here because I feel there should be some coordination between the two. The biggest thing I learned from all of this is to stop updating my software when everything is working. Edited June 8, 20206 yr by RXP
June 8, 20206 yr Another thing that could be learned is that regular full system backups provide another quick and easy means to solve these sorts of problems. June 8, 20206 yr Author So against my better judgement and after reading up on system restore I decided to try restoring my system back to 4 days ago. I have had bad luck with system restore in the past and just having done a restore it renewed that again. The restore says it was successful. The GTN trainer says it is 2.7.0.0, however when I try running the trainer it crashes. My other flight simulator works with the GTN but now X Plane 11 won't work. I have uninstalled the Reality XP software and installed the previous version. Same thing the GTN's come up blank and do not initialize. Yes regular system backups would be a good idea if you have the place to store them. Perhaps I should consider that and start weekly backups of my boot drive to two different backups alternating each every week so I have two different backups to choose from. So now that I have done a system restore I will have to check things out to see what else doesn't work. I will most likely install the latest GTN trainer since the one installed now is broken. Lesson learned. DON'T UPDATE SOFTWARE WHEN YOU HAVE TWO DIFFERENT VERSIONS UNTIL BOTH HAVE UPDATES THAT WILL WORK TOGETHER. I have had issues in the past having two different versions of the GTN software and when possible I will go to one version if that is ever possible to prevent this from happening again.
June 8, 20206 yr @jfwharton I appreciate you're latest explanations more than your initial rants. Thank you. What you might have wanted to do first though, is reading some material in this forum: This is the link to GTN trainer 6.62.3 (the previous one released 3 months ago) which is still valid as of right now: http://download.garmin.com/avtrainer/gtn/6.62.3.0/GTN.Setup.msi So is the GTN trainer 6.50.1: http://download.garmin.com/avtrainer/gtn/6.50.1.0/GTN.Setup.msi Edited June 8, 20206 yr by RXP
June 8, 20206 yr Author Thank you very much for the links. And yes I should have waited until I settled down before attempting to post anything. For that I apologize. My reinstall of the GTN trainer failed initially. I tried several times and each time it crashed when running the trainer. I had to uninstall, delete files in all locations and then the installation succeeded. I did have the 2600 trainer installer what would have fixed the issue but I didn't have the corresponding Reality XP software from 1/6/2020. If I had had that I would have been able to get the GTNs working again in both simulators. So now I am back to where I was being able to fly X Plane 11 but not my other flight simulators. Oh well live and learn.
June 8, 20206 yr Sorry to hear that the restore didn't work as planned. I would delete both GTN's and try installing the older trainer as per the link from Jean-Luc. Then add the GTN's one after another if the trainer works stand-alone. Hans

Thanks for the suggestion but I don't have the reality XP installer that would work with that GTN software. Should the latest sofware work with the older trainer software?
June 8, 20206 yr Author Regarding the two msi files that were listed above. They do not work. I have to uninstall the GTN trainer software in order to install either of them. After they install I can see the GTN display initialize and come up in XP11 but the popups do not work and the GTN screen cannot be configured. I ended up reinstalling the latest GTN trainer software so that I can use the GTN in XP11. My other flight simulators are still inoperative with the GTN.
June 8, 20206 yr @jfwharton The latest RXP GTN is compatible with the following (as indicated in the release notes): This release is compatible with the following GTN Trainers: 6.62.4, 6.62.3, 6.50.1 and 6.21 only. The links I've posted above are the 2nd and 3rd in the list, the link to the 4th being in the aforementioned "Trainer download links" thread. It is quite a broad support of so many different trainer versions which is supposed to make it easier for our customers and give them time to also update the trainer at a later time.
June 8, 20206 yr Author Well I'm a bit confused on what to install. I do have the trainer installer GarminTrainerSetup2600.exe. If I install that the GTNs work in my other flight simulators. But when I do that then the GTN doesn't work in XP11. I need the RealityXP installer that corresponds to that Garmin trainer installer if possible.
June 8, 20206 yr Author OK I figured out the solution and thank you very much for providing that link. I downloaded the individual components for 2.7.0.0 and the 6.62.3.0 GTN setup. Now the GTNs are back working in all of my simulators. Thank you, Thank, you, Thank, you!

I'm glad you've sorted out, and let me prove you're in good hands with a RXP product and with RXP support... 😉 Edited June 8, 20206 yr by RXP
June 9, 20206 yr Author Yes I am in good hands and you have been VERY helpful. My frustration, etc should have been (and really was) directed at myself for knowing in the back of my mind about issues I have had in the past having both versions of the GTN on my system. I would love to have only one but would loose the use of the GTN is quite a few aircraft that I like to fly in the other simulator. Maybe one day I will be able to have only one version and that will make things much simplier. Thank you so much again for your help.

Which aircraft would you lose? I have moved all my P3D aircraft over to RXP, without missing a beat.. Bert
