Did I understand correctly, did they somehow edited manually 37000 airports ? Even with the best tools or pipeline I can't imagine how they can do this.

My understanding is that all 37k got that treatment they were showing with the waypoints, materials, outlines, etc. and autogen buildings extrapolated from satellite imagery  Then there were 80 airports that got additional attention to ensure accurate real-life signage, building placement etc.  Then there's an unknown smaller number of "iconic" airports, that they basically gave the full manual treatment to ensure as much accuracy as possible.

It's way more than I expected.  And those brief shots of the SDK tools look really powerful, as far as enabling 3PDs to add more.

Just finished the video

wow

1)They have animated ground crew, OMG. THEY HAVE ANIMATED PEOPLE

2)They got a menu to toggle jetways, request pushback and catering services ( They have replaced GSX addon)

3) Vehicles have headlights at night when moving around the airport

4) WINDSOCK moving according to proper wind direction and speed.

I am afraid my body won't get enough sunlight for 3-4 years after sim is released, please place me in a experimentation lab for further studies

I'm gonna invest in a Vitamin D supplement manufacturer, so I can make money off of all of us nerds not getting enough natural sunlight, haha.

Rip ORBX NZQN. Don't see much that could be improved there. But it could be a custom modelled airport which is why it looks so good. Either way, it's outstanding.

It'd be a task for sure, but with some reasonably intelligent tools it'd be more of a task in terms of repetition of a few tweaks rather than a long winded effort with each one. Basically it looked to me as though their tools take a good automated stab at placing the vector points for the structure and then someone manually tweaks them to make sure they are aligned more correctly on the odd corner should that prove necessary. Essentially this would be the same technique as when you scan an image (which is made up of pixels) then import it into Adobe Illustrator (which uses vectors), then have Illustrator convert the image edges and areas of colour into vectors. Anyone who is reasonably au fait with Illustrator will have done that and will know that it's not a long process when you know what you are doing. Then throw in some batch processing of things and bob's er uncle, it's done.

Many things seem complex if you don't know how to do them. This is akin to when someone once came on a Photoshop training course which I was presenting, and mentioned that they needed to convert about 16,000 images they had on file, from one format to another and do a few tweaks to each image too, then save each one to a new database. They said that some company had quoted them a vast sum of money to do this work and they were considering actually paying it because it seemed like a monumental task to them. I sat them down whilst the other course attendees were having a coffee break, got them to record a script of the actions they wanted and then showed them how to do a batch process with the script they had just recorded on the contents of any folder they pointed it at, all in about ten minutes before the coffee break ended. At which point they told me I'd just saved their company many thousands of pounds lol.

I should imagine that procedure is not a million miles away from what is going on with that airport processing. Having said this, I still think what they are doing is cool, but it's like any task really, if you don't personally know how it is done, it always seems impressive to you because it is something you cannot or do not know how to (at least at that point) do it yourself.

Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here

Very impressive indeed. I suppose the lack of info regarding the 'hangar' shots suggests that they are indeed part of the UI and not the actual airfields?

Could also be actual buildings in the airport, but entering and exiting them is an interstitial animation or something.  Or maybe they just never considered that the hangars are that interesting to begin with, haha.

The grass strip in Costa Rica on the update is the Sirena Ranger Station in Costa Rica.

Guys this is absurd, how can they think it is at all acceptable not to be able to choose which company is providing the catering for your jet? I was really excited, but if these are the choices that MS/Asobo are making I'm not sure I will be buying. It's 2020 after all I mean come on!

/s for any poor fools didn't realize. This is incredible.

As a scenery designer, the Airport Episode made me freeze on my chair long after the video is over... Speechless

Probably don't have a licensing agreement to add the company logo on the catering trucks.

Im speechless 😮..

I think there needs to be and/or will be a unofficial world wide flight sim holiday when this releases 🙂

Yeah but how long, 2 weeks, 1 month, 1 full year paid holiday with all benefits and all time used in MSFS goes towards making the sim better and providing feedback to asobo.
