Let's hope that this can be maintained when tens of thousands of users are online at the same time. My connection is 50Mbps, but file download speeds from various locations can be a fraction of that at times.

I assumed it would be a part of the XCloud  project and as such the percentage of FX users would be minute compared with all the other gamers on line even assuming most other games would require far less data transfer.

We could do with more tessellation on those runway sure close ups. Nice textures in the video but quite flat looking. I knew I'd find something wrong with it! 😁

I don’t worry about connection speed but for data volume / month.

i have a flatrate but I don’t know what happens if I produce traffic of the size of 2 petabytes

That 2 petabytes is the TOTAL data that Microsoft has in storage, that will be processed  by Azure. Only a very tiny micro size of that will be streamed. Obviously a VERY VERY small portion, depending on the scenery complexity & weather of your flight.

That 2 petabytes scenery comment has really confused people, thinking that they will have to contend with have to deal with all of it.

Just ask yourself how much data has Google Earth got, and does your PC need all of it for you to zoom around!

Indeed, just look at how many gamers are on the Steam servers at the same time.

You mean MSFS, not FX?

Correct. Flight simmers are a niche component of the gaming fraternity. First person shooters, and similar, with their instant gratification with shooting & 'kills', rule at the moment.

Time will tell if the gamers will stick to flight simming in numbers, after finding their houses in the sim, and trying to crash.

Actually that 2 petabytes is Bing data.

Using microsofts azure ai servers they have built a database with all the textures, 3d models etc based of bing.  That's all been processed and built already. Its not calculated on the fly as people need it.  That could quite possibly be smaller than bings data.

Azure is the the content delivery service used to retrieve these objects and textures.

Thanks for correcting. The principle remains basically the same.

It's like watching a movie from Netflix.. No need to download the whole catalog. That's a VERY basic type of explanation.

I'm a bit late to the game and just watched the trailer today...all I can say is wow!  This actually seems to be too good to be true.  I bet with the level of fidelity they're striving for and money they're putting into this they must have strong training aspirations on top of the entertainment market...just amazing!

I think this is the first time we got to see photogrammetric mountains. I think it looks amazing, especially in motion (even with the blob trees).

Simmerhead - Making the virtual skies unsafe since 1987!

This might be off this topic, but I bet in the next episode, cockpits, we’ll see some even more jaw dropping shots of the 747 cockpit. They’ve shown almost all default aircrafts cockpits except from the Queen, so my guess is they’ve saved the best for the end.

Yeah not sure how in dept they will go as they seem to try and make the videos about 30 minutes for the Discovery series. But I want to see the entire cockpit at least. And according to a person invited to Seattle in September, Renton I think it was, the TBM 930 and all the aircraft were from an early build and not all was finished as far as items working in the cockpits. Now they could have had a way earlier version, and there might have been versions more up to date, but what they flew in some planes they were not complete. But I do think the C-172 might have been at the time! This is the Discovery I have been waiting for the most. Well actually all of them are great 🙂 I am hoping they all work like the real world ones!

I got the impression that the Discovery Series videos we're seeing are the same ones shown to the YouTube influencers in Seattle several months ago. If it wasn't working back then, it's unlikely it'll be working in the next video.
