Best night lighting tweak yet.

Featured Replies

There's a new replacement for XP11's night lighting, and in my opinion, after having tried a lot of them, it's by far the best yet. It goes by the humble name of "My_Xplane_Night_Lighting 1.1.6" and is a bit more elaborate than other tweaks, as it replaces more that just the lights.txt - key here is resizing the lights, correcting the scale of the lights by making them smaller (similar to what Mister X's HD forests do to the scale of the trees). Colors are also spot on, less orange and with a lot more variation - check the highway ramps for example. It doesn't change the emitted light however, so it has the same performance than vanilla X-Plane lighting - unlike other tweaks such as the TK Lights mod, which will lower your FPS. Make sure to remove other tweaks before installation.

Currently giving X-Plane 12.10 a spin on Shadow PC. 10 years with X-Plane now, since 10.20

That guy has a custom 737 sim....  I liked the pics but they weren't from screenshots they were from his monitors.  I think he later posted some actual screenshots and the lights looked ok.  For where I fly, HP sodium (orange) is still a lot more realistic.

Looks nice but a bit too much white for my taste.

I never judge these add-ons based on screenshots. They tend to look different with each setup.

Hi Colonel X,

I stop in here at AVSIM every once and a blue moon to read up on things, I'm glad you find my XP11 light mod useful.

You're right Ryan, the top set of pics are photos of my actual monitors and the ones further down are actual screen captures themselves. Since I'm not interested in screen grabs for the most part, I didn't focus my attention in that area... my goal was to provided the best view while flying the sim. The exterior view I get when flying can bee seen in the video bellow. Unless ones focus is on screen grabs, you'll never see screen grab type lighting that is shown in the post.
For those that have UHDTV's (4K), here are my monitor settings
Picture Mode: DYNAMIC  |  Backlight: 20  |  Contrast: 100  |  Brightness: 61  |  Sharpness: 60:  |  Color: 55  | Tint (G/R): 50/50

I modified your mod, slightly, I did not copy the base textures over, I prefer the extended night lighting mod combined with your mod, gives me the best of both worlds....  I applied the full US extended night lighting mod, then your mod, and now I have just pristine flights at night, a guilty pleasure for certain....

Yeah I didn't mention it, of course I first installed the extended night lights. Those are sort of essential for everybody I supposed.

Decided to give it a shot, as Mr. Colonel seems to have a solid taste in addons. Actually very pleasantly surprised, great variety and the mix of yellow and white is great. Probably not the best showcase shot but in-sim it looked stunning.

Excellent work, Mike.

LOL, you opened up a memory, BTW in the video forum I have and example of an Ercoupe flying over London, better than Guy Fawkes destroying Parliament (cigarettes, lol) ....  My fav day of the year is 11/11, not 9/11 for obvious reasons,   You also reminded me of my father's chance encounter with Dwight Eisenhower, he was a combat photographer in the Korean war, and part of the Hazmat group that came into Japan after the atomic bombings, which is why I am battling cancer now, but I have beaten it before in 97, it changed my life, and removed my fear of the hereafter, at least in my case.

That is why am big on photon torpedoes and laser blasters, and not happy with those who commemorate Sodom and Gommorah, who get turned into pillars of salt for looking too deeply into someone's words, or scoff at their piloting skills and their past.

That is why I love these freeware add-ons so much, the people that make them grind the gears to make our hobby more enjoyable like "Ivy" Mike (inside Joke, if you know about my father's participation in it).  Like I said, for better or worse, tongue in cheek, yes Luke Skywalkers, I am your father.....   So please keep contributing your own pearls of wisdom, but to the mods who allowed someone to hack a more recent post of mine, as Gomer Pyle once said, shame shame shame, since I am a retired member of the Jarhead Klan, that is libel I bet.

Y'all know what I mean....
