There is clearly enough information available to make a logical, rational, assessment of the game. It doesn't mean everyone will make one.

I'm trying to stop myself typing this (again) but... there's just not enough information available in either the video or the press releases to make any kind of proper assessment of it (good or bad), never mind a rational one! You seem to think that you're seeing or reading something that the rest of us are missing but it just isn't there. Do you really think that MS would be stupid enough at such an early stage to make it obvious to everyone that this isn't going to be a fully fledged simulator (and risk losing a lot of potential customers before it even gets started)? They've effectively told us nothing, so far, other than that they're going to release a new flight sim. There is no hidden information that only you are privy to.

Couldn't respond earlier, been suspended. Sorry, 30 years in imaging, 30 years in marketing and a lifetime of gaming, I can assure you I am seeing things none of you are.

The latest screenshot thread is another example. It is pointless me trying to explain anything to anyone here. Maybe if people listened when I was trying to explain a little about 4K they would not have needed, I think it was 5 pages, of discussion trying to determine something as simple as what the source of that screen was.

The screenshot imo is not "WOW" for example, it is "Oh, no!" but you need to understand what you are looking at. I can neither explain or comment without being attacked by people who understand absolutely nothing.

I've spent many years helping people on FS forums, even created a little content and was in the process of creating more. My partner has pulled out after 16 months on the project we working on due to comments here. That project is dead for me too.

I'm moving on to being active in other games.

Good luck to you all.

Why "oh no"?

To answer that, I would need to be prepared to be attacked, criticized, called names, accused of trolling or being a loser by people who have say all of around 10 posts to their name. I would need to risk mods suspending or banning me as well. Not interested, sorry. It is what it is.

I will certainly never stop using my FS9 which I totally enjoy and for me, for reasons I have also explained, is the best of all the flight simulators.  I simply have no interest in continuing commenting on MSFS or being an active part of the FS community.

I hope this clarifies everything.

That's your choice and I respect that. But the majority of us are silent and respectful. Can't you choose not to answer angry people and ignore them?

I asked you that respectfully... 🙂

If I wasn't posting, I'd still read the forum.  I came here looking for information.

Some information is less useful than the rest but that doesn't matter.  It's all useful one way or another.  If someone has a history of posting considerably less useful information I can always put them on ignore.

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;

Sky watcher, I say this with all due respect but did you even read the verbal I gave you?

I think you do know what you are talking about and I respect your years in the business but the problem you have is your presentation. You come off as if you think no one else has any experience in graphics at all and you get angry if someone has a different approach. Don't talk down to people and be more respectful of their views too.

If you decide to move on then that's your choice but I think if you tone down your aggressive demeanor you might find a more receptive audience.

Thank you.

You don't need to risk anything as long as you post respectfully and stop belittling and condescending other posters.  The problem isn't your information, it's the way you treat other posters.

That said I'd love to hear why the screenshot should make us go "oh no!", because from my knowledge and experience both as a gamer and an indie game developer, all I can see is huge amounts of promise in both the MS screenshot and the trailer.

Since when the number of posts made has become a measure of ones intellectual level ? Some of us like to keep to ourselves and are more of a back seat watchers. Did you ever think that some of us might even have greater insight than you on the topic at hand but chose not to post anything ? Not saying that we do not value your opinions because we do. Maybe you should try to return the favor sometimes.

It's not so much a matter of what one says, but rather the way one expresses it.

Says a person with only 14,733 posts.

Why "oh no"?

Everything I see is marketing toward console gamers not hardcore enthusiasts not even PC users despite MS mentioning the game will be on PC first. I suggested this from the beginning. The latest screenshot and update imo confirms it. There is absolutely nothing that has been released to this point that makes me even question I could possibly be wrong.

I can't say anymore than what I have said many times. I am certain this is no FSX replacement. The only thing I can't suggest is where the line will fall between arcade and simulator.

The write-up all points to selling a modern MSFS 1 to the current modern console and casual PC gaming market. It does not point to selling a follow-on MSFS 11 to the market which is currently using FSX.

The screenshot is an effect screenshot as is typical as you would produce to sell to the console crowd. The radical DOF effect, the angle and even general lighting. Furthermore, it's nowhere near close to reality. It's nothing like the eye would see this scene, it's how you would portray the scene in a game. Lack of HDR/dynamic range as the eye would see is also not there. What is there is the opposite, the light areas totally blow out all detail. They love doing this for gaming (bloom effect is one example) but it's not a representation of reality or how the human eye would see this scene if sitting in that cockpit.

Text and screenshot, both point to a console type game not a FSX replacement. Look at what they are promoting, a flight planner, a new flight model, VFR-IFR flight, weather simulation, VR. Does this sound like it's going to excite the long term hardcore FSX user or possibly excite the more casual Xbox gamer?

I'll try and clarify things even further. There has been no direct association between MSFS and previous FS versions made in any way, zip, zero, absolutely nothing. You just don't do this if MSFS is a continuation and previous users are intended consumers. It's simply really bad marketing unless the new product will differ greatly from the previous product.

It's no surprise whatsoever to read such a post and find 6 reactions.

First, read your post and tone so here is an appropriate reply. I'll return a favor and set you straight on what you just stated.

I did not state number of posts has anything to do with intellect. You're making things up now. For those who have few posts, if everyone was like this there would be no forum, nothing to read, nowhere for you to surf and this game would be dead. I have no time for people who just sit back and make no effort to participate to help keep old games like FS9 and FSX alive.

Secondly, my issue with this guy, he created only his 10th post. In this post, he stated I'm a loser because he read I prefer FS9 over P3D/XP, based it on the assumption I have a low end PC and stated I'm obviously frustrated.

Now, if anyone feels that an appropriate reason to make a 10th post is to trash somebody and get into a heated debate, sorry, I'm not the frustrated one or the one with the problem! lol

Yes?

- New flight model: It could very well be better, more detailed, and more realistic than anything currently available.  We don't know either way at this point.

- VFR-IFR flight: Sounds good to me, just like every sim available today.

- Weather Simulation: It already appears to use volumetric clouds, with cloud shadows too, and what we saw in the trailer looked marvelous.  Very excited about this.

- VR: Many people are looking forward to using VR with a sim that looks this realistic.

I have to say Skycatcher, from what we've seen and heard from MS so far, YES I am very excited.  And I am certainly a long term hardcore sim user who also flies for real from time to time.

Why aren't you excited again?  Because the negative points you keep stating as fact don't seem to jive with the reality of what we've been shown, and I'm still confused about your reasons for being so pessimistic?  🤔

I agree and disagree on this:

Look at  your screen, you are able to visualize what is around it and in the background, but you don't focus on it so if you had to make a picture of what you see entirely, the background would just be blurry I think.

And even if you disagree with what I just said, this picture might just not be an in-game picture, and that's also fine by me because the level of detail and the quality are the things important for me.
