GTN 750 Black Screen After Hard Drive Change (resolved)

Featured Replies

Yes sorry for the typo, 2310 is ok! (it is GTN Trainer 6.50.1)

I never recall installing the program as an administrator,

But do you run X-Plane as admin?

You can always download and reinstall the trainer using the installer from here:

http://download.garmin.com/software/GarminTrainerSetup_2310.exe

X-Plane used to automatically as admin for some reason, after the hard drive change it no longer runs as admin automatically

Tried with the Garmin, nothing changed. The error for the 650 is because the 172 comes with the 650

Booted in with the 172:

Ok, let's try to further solve this.

Are you comfortable in using regedit?

If so, can you please do the following: you can open the Windows registry by typing regedit in the search tab of the Start Menu in Windows.

1) Click the Windows start menu, type regedit.exe, click on the matching item listed, accept the UAC prompt.

2) Locate the following folder:

"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Garmin\Trainers"

3) You should read the following entries:

"BootstrapperLocation"="C:\\ProgramData\\Package Cache\\{8cb87890-c33b-4856-9871-ceb55505713a}\\GarminTrainerSetup.exe"
"DataPath"="C:\\ProgramData\\Garmin\\Trainers\\"
"BinPath"="C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Garmin\\Trainers\\"
"DBDataPath"="C:\\ProgramData\\Garmin\\Trainers\\Databases\\"

Q: Can you please report what does it contain on your system?

Here you go!

BootstrapperLocation:      C:\ProgramData\Package Cache\{0cf89a63-832f-4334-96d5-46ff0c3bfff7}\GarminTrainerSetup.exe

DataPath:      C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Trainers\

BinPath:      X:\Program Files\

DBDataPath:     X:\Program Data\Databases\

Most likely the error then!

Wether you've told the Garmin trainer to install to X, and it messed up the path, can you confirm you do have:

"X:\Program Files\Garmin\Trainers\Packages\GTN\bin\GTN Simulator.exe"

"X:\Program Data\Databases\safetaxi.bin"

While trying to fix the issue previously, I uninstalled it and reinstalled it back into my C: Drive, these files are actually installed in the C: Drive

Ha, Garmin trainer in C:\ drive but registry telling it is in X:\ drive...

Well, you might want to manually update the registry with the correct paths as shown in this discussion?

But do you confirm these files exist (Garmin GTN Trainer 6.50.1):

Related to BinPath:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Garmin\Trainers\Packages\GTN\bin\GTN Simulator.exe
C:\Program Files (x86)\Garmin\Trainers\Packages\GTN\data\nonvol\sys_nand0

Related to DBDataPath:
C:\Program Data\Garmin\Trainers\Databases\safetaxi.bin

Related to DataPath:
C:\Program Data\Garmin\Trainers\Launcher\Manuals

Also, it might be if you've installed the Garmin trainer as admin once, they might not be accessible when running not as-admin (user access rights). You might in fact just want to uninstall the trainer, manually delete the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Garmin\Trainers" registry folder, then reinstall the trainer as a normal user (meaning just double click the installer, no right click / run as).

I have all the files listed above, I will try manually deleting the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Garmin\Trainers" registry folder.

I let you know how it plays out

I'm sorry for the 'complex' process and we'd like to offer a seamless way through all this but we need to really understand what led you system to set these wrongly in the first place when you've installed the trainer to X: and how to prevent this from happening if possible and/or how to guide future customers having the same troubles.

Should you have installed the trainer once 'as-admin' it is possible the registry is no longer accessible to your Windows account.

However If you delete this registry folder the plugin won't be able to find some of the trainer files automatically.

You might want to manually delete the registry folder only after you uninstall the trainer and before reinstalling it.

Installed correctly, it seems like the GTN is just not booting?

At least it doesn't tell it can't find the trainer, so we are making progress, but let's make sure of it:

Q: Is all the above in correct order?

Q: Besides, have you check any 'RXP' quarantined files in your anti-virus if any?
