Thanks for great screenshots. I can't remember if this has been discussed, but does the -8 have dynamic cockpit lighting as one of the new features? EDIT: n/m I see from your first screenshots that it does not.

Also, I'm curious to know how the FBW compared to the 777.

Thanks!

Alex Pugh

Hi Alex, hand flying the -8 was a surprise because she handles so beautifully.  There is no FBW involved, control inputs are mechanically transferred to hydraulic actuators.  There are electronics involved in the outboard ailerons and spoilers but I wouldn't interpret this to mean that the airplane is a FBW airplane.  The feel of this airplane is responsive while being aware of it's hugeness, it is so much fun to fly that I only use A/P above 10000 or maybe on arrival if it's been a long day and then the A/P gets disconnected before I turn to base.

You may try to do the VHHH - ZSAM pattern, that is the usual ferry flight we do.

The other regional pattern the -8F flies is VHHH - RJAA / VVDN / VVTS etc.

Another interesting route the CX -8F flies is from SYD to Wellcap (YBWW) - a regional airport then continue to Hong Kong. https://www.thechronicle.com.au/news/family-visits-airport-to-watch-history-in-making/2849100/

Have fun!! It is truly a beauty. I wish I could have flown it for a few years, but now it is too late.

Marvelous stuff, Ta!

BTW, what a GREAT name for a pilot!

Another interesting CX flight on the -8 is AMS - LUX. At just around 42 minutes, I imagine it has to be one of the shortest 747 hops.

for me the -8 will arrive next year along with rainmaker and global opreations

The Aleutian Chain is just ahead. While there are now bigger aircraft, I'd argue that she's still the Queen of the Skies.  Wouldn't you?

Yes - she is, indeed. And likely always will be - I mean, you've got the Wright Flyer, the DC-3, Concorde and the 747. That's the Superfecta! 😎

You mean CV, never seen CX fly that leg.

Likely just confused it with the CLX code (the flight can appear as either CLX769 or CV769). And equipment can vary - sometimes 744, sometimes 748. Yesterday it was indeed a 748.
