That may be your intention, but it comes across as "don't talk about this stuff here, talk about it over at my website instead".  Which is ironic, since Devon's very knowledgeable insights regarding the development status of existing engines such as Outerra could really only serve to help your cause.  It gets more people, some of whom may be on the fence about joining your website, talking about the possibilities...

I dont think thats how he meant it (I hope) but unfortunately it kind of left that flavor.  Its understandable, that website took a lot of time to create, and I would actually like to post there, but I find the place (unfortunately) a bit too visually confusing and navigation flow is just not intuitive for me. Maybe the new admin will help and I will feel more like posting there after that.

You may have just killed your own thread, though.

Now now, we must remain positive here, no being realistic negative! :P

Boy do things get misconstrued around here quickly.

My sole intention, and this is to defuse any misconceptions as derived from others... is to keep things in there proper places whether it be here on AVSIM or over on the SIM-Posium.

I just want to ensure that we stick to the topic of the invitation to join The NGFS SIM-Posium.

My apologies to all... no offense was meant.

You might want to read the post just above yours before having too much fun. Some of us do indeed try to keep things positive. My statement was made in actual concern for the thread, because it was pretty obvious how his post might be seen and what the reaction might be.

I actually thought I was supporting the posters site, but it appears I may have been too enthusiastic and I apologize. I will withdraw.

Sorry If I hijacked the thread, guys.

Not quite.  If you would of worded it as "Hey guys, those are great ideas and details!  Just a reminder, we'd love it if we could have these sorts of things talked about over at the site I've created for it, as we don't want to step on any toes here regarding the purpose of this thread!",  it would of been much less likely to be taken any other way than what you claim you intended.

Perhaps an apology is owed to you as well.  There is indeed very close scrutiny of what you're trying to accomplish.  If your efforts are well-intentioned, no matter what other details have been raised or brought up, then you likely should be removed from your unenviable position of being under the microscope.

It was just a joke and not even really directed at you. No harm intended. I also must have been in the editor still, as your next post wasn't there when I clicked "Quote."

Well said... I still ascertain that you've got some sort of degree in writing

Cheers, and thanks,

Exactly what I was trying to say...

very well put.

Indeed, it was the tone I reacted to as much as anything.  First a put down to someone who'd been providing quality information when that person lacked a certain piece of information, and then a rather abrupt stop to what had been a fruitful discussion with a solid push away from Avsim.

Perhaps an apology is owed to you as well. There is indeed very close scrutiny of what you're trying to accomplish.

Here, however, I think we have to part company a bit.  Again, I think the discussion has been mostly good and civil.   Anyone coming into an established community promoting their own site with some pretty lofty goals should expect to get some intensive questioning, especially given some of the flags I mentioned earlier where talk of rewards and funding sources are brought into the picture.  This is the internet - full of great knowledge and power, as well as incredibly sincere sounding hoaxes and misguided evangelists.  The trick is figuring out which is which.  People are not out of line in trying to understand motives and methods before they flock to a banner.

Boy do things get misconstrued around here quickly.

My sole intention, and this is to defuse any misconceptions as derived from others... is to keep things in there proper places whether it be here on AVSIM or over on the SIM-Posium.

We can't get inside each others minds (yet!) so none of us can know intent, we can only read what someone has written, and what you wrote obviously did not come out very well to this reader.

Of course, as the topic starter you're not out of line to make a request to keep that topic on the track you began, but you did actively participate in the side discussion until the rather abrupt halt you called for in a perhaps unintended way.  Wiith respect, discussions of future flight sims do belong here as well as on numerous other sites, yours included of course, if people choose to take them there.  They way things were phrased made it seem as though you thought otherwise.  If that was not your intent, then no harm, no foul and thanks for the clarification.

Please take this in the spirit it's offered.  At this point, I'm neither for ya or agin' ya - just trying to understand who you are and where you're coming from as you have rather appeared "out of the blue".

And my apologies for the terse response.  I'm generally not a fan of cryptic three word postings, so I felt I owed you a more detailed response.

Thanks Scott... I do understand where you're coming from and I look upon your comments as intended to assist and protect the flight simulator community.

No put down was intended... the post simply clarified some facts and asked others to please read and check their information before posting. I'm sure that the gentleman that you are referring to has considerable knowledge regarding 3D platforms, but in this case his statements were not completely correct.

I also have a tendency to get caught up in the conversations taking place and make every attempt to clarify those comments made throughout this thread that deterred the real intent of the Next Generation Flight Simulator SIM-Posium or the tools that can make such a venture feasible.

As far as my intentions - I am just a fellow flight simulator enthusiast who has watched over the last 9 years very little progress in the way of progressing flight simulation through the use of newer technologies.

I don't join many forums, but I do read quite a few (AVSIM is one of them) and it has become obvious to me that several members of the flight simulator community are dissatisfied with the current direction that any progress in flight simulation is taking.

It is my hope and my intentions... to start a legitimate conversation and movement by the flight simulator community to invest a bit of their time and talents towards the discussion and possible creation of a next generation flight simulator that is first and foremost community driven. The NGFS SIM-Posium is nothing more than a format for that discussion and the accumulation of ideas in a more formal and organized arena than that which has taken place in the past.

If the NGFS SIM-Posium is successful, we as a community can dictate the future of commercial flight simulation, otherwise we can continue to accept what is handed to us and be grateful.

Does such a venture include financial opportunities? Certainly... but not for me. I don't have the talent necessary to contribute in a fashion worthy of accepting remuneration. In fact... it is my hope that the community will elect that any profit to be made by such a venture be used to pay those who are necessary for the continued development and management of a next generation flight simulator for years to come. And any further profits made would be channeled towards continuous research and development.

I'm just one person... with a dream to see a next generation flight simulator, worthy of the name, developed in my life time. I've only provided, what will hopefully turnout to be, a little push in that direction.

Just wanted to share this post from Phil Taylor since it's relevant to some of the FPS engines being discussed here, in case anyone hasn't read it:

http://forum.avsim.net/topic/446086-dovetail-games-buys-licensing-deal-with-microsoft/page-24#entry3028142

First let me point out that the post linked is nearly a year old and a lot has happened since that time, particularly with Unreal Engine 4 as well as UNIGINE Sim (not to be confused with UNIGINE).

Again, I refer you to the following link regarding UNIGINE Sim... HERE  Please be sure to read all of the submenu items found in blue.

As I've stated before... one of the purposes of the NGFS SIM-Posium is to discuss the feasibility of any engine that could possibly be a candidate for use in developing a next generation flight simulator. Such discussions have yet to be made in order to select the most likely candidate.

Thanks,

Stephen B.

Nevertheless, relevant and well worth reading for concerns such as earth curvature (note Unigine today appears to be flat world, cartesian coordinates).

Please read the sub-headings in the links above... you'll be amazed at what new things you'll learn.
