January 14, 201511 yr Short version: Co pilot is not taking over the controls. Long version: Uncontrolled airport, requested clearance, got it. Startup procedure, I taxied to runway 18, but there was another aircraft taking off from 26, so I waited patiently until he left (about 3 minutes). By then, there was less than 10 minutes between the time I requested clearance and the time I was ready to roll. So, I applied thrust, get positive climb, retract gear, then I hear the controller telling me I took too long, and RC closes. I figured, I can just reload RC while I'm in the air, load the flight plan and go from there. Didn't have an option to request clearance while flying, so I went through the whole clearance from the ground, taxi to runway 18, take off south, contact center, all is good. I can talk to the controller and request altitude change if I feel like it (tried up and down). However, when I hit Ctrl-Shift-M to pass controls over, I hear "My Plane", but co pilot is actually not controlling aircraft. I have auto-pilot on, alt and hdg selected as I normally have, but still no go. I Ctrl-Shift-M again, hear "Your Plane", do it again "My plane", but still nothing. Any idea why? thanks.
January 14, 201511 yr Moderator RC4 can only control the a/p of those aircraft that use the standard FS autopilot. It cannot control PMDG and others with sophisticated autopilots. What aircraft were you flying? Ray (Cheshire, England). January 14, 201511 yr Author Standard FSX DC-3. It has always worked before with this aircraft. Just not this time. So I know it's not the aircraft itself, most likely something I did, but I have no idea what that could be...
January 14, 201511 yr Moderator Okay, that should be okay. Suggest you reboot and try again. I doubt it is a genuine bug. Probably just a combo of circumstances. Ray (Cheshire, England). January 14, 201511 yr Author Kindof what I thought.. Just for the heck of it, I'll try and replicate the same situation as before (starting RC while in the air).. but you're probably right, just a weird fluke... thanks Ray!
January 14, 201511 yr Moderator Hang on. You're starting RC when airborne? You shouldn't be doing that. There will be a whole load of things that are being missed. The only time that's okay is when you're reloading a saved RCD file. Try a flight from/to controlled airports and with your aircraft at a parking location. If that works try from an uncontrolled one but I fail to see why that would make a difference. Have you flown the tutorials? Ray (Cheshire, England). January 14, 201511 yr Author The only reason why I started RC airborne is because of the problem as described in my original post. I usually don't do that.. I have flown the tutorial when I first got RC a few years ago..
January 14, 201511 yr Moderator Okay. I only asked as you have few AvSim posts so thought you might be a newbie. :-) Ray (Cheshire, England). January 14, 201511 yr Author Fair assumption.. but no.. Been on FS since the early 90s, and had RC4 pretty much since it came out.. I just never that problem before.. as for AvSim, I've been a lurker for a long long time.. LOL!
