January 25, 201412 yr hello guys, I just bought the PMDG 777, though I notice that when I am switching around the cameras in the cockpit view and then switch to the outside view of the plane (by pressing "S") I end up seeing the skeleton of the plane for just about a sec, its pretty fast but still a bit anoying. Does some of you have esperienced the same thing? any idea on how to solve this problem? Thanks in advance! cu felipe turbay

Does some of you have esperienced the same thing? any idea on how to solve this problem? Hi, Felipe, This is a recognized limitation of the PMDG T7 as acknowledged in the pinned issues thread. Apparently it will not be fixed. Possibly it could be fixed if PMDG created a "lite" model with no simulation of the cabin (what you are seeing momentarily that looks like a skeleton). Mike
January 25, 201412 yr Try adding HIGHMEMFIX=1 to the [GRAPHICS] setting of your FSX.CFG. Regards, Jeremy Chesney
January 26, 201412 yr Author yeah Jeremy I tried that already, but as mike wrote it might seem to be a small problem... Thanks for your help! felipe turbay
January 26, 201412 yr I corresponded with someone from PMDG about creating a "lite" model without the cabin modeled, but he pointed out that the problem isn't with the interior, but with the size of the external textures. So unlikely to be fixed. Sorry. Mike
January 26, 201412 yr Moderator The only way to fix it is to resize the external textures to 1024 from 4096. You cant really tell much difference in look unless you really zoom in close to the outside of the aircraft. Jim Burke Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
January 26, 201412 yr Yep, so the options are: Deal with it, it happens. orMake the fuselage textures low quality. (which, instead of being a flash of skeleton, will be a _forever_ of low quality textures). January 26, 201412 yr I also have this gray panel that may stay for close to one minute before clearing. See picture. I have a good computer, good graphic card (see my specs) tweaked as per PMDG recommendations. Did a lot a search and did not see any solution to that problem. Anyone can help? Marcel Perron
January 26, 201412 yr Can it be fixed by decreasing the resolution of the exterior textures? Matthew Bellette
January 26, 201412 yr Moderator Can it be fixed by decreasing the resolution of the exterior textures? That's what I stated in my post a few up from yours. Works for me. 4096 textures take a bit longer to load than 1024s do. A neat way to test it is to drop a 4096 texture into DXTBmp and see how long it takes to load. Then drop a 1024 texture into DXTBmp and it loads almost instantly. Same thing happens in the sim and is even worse when FSX is trying to render everthing else around the plane besides just the planes textures.i And no, using 1024 exterior textures doesnt look like a blurry mess, you can hardly tell the difference unless you zoom in very close to the a/c. The only reason not to resize them is if you dont mind the longer loading time, you fly or spend more time on the outside of the plane than in the VC, or you specialize in doing screen shots zoom in close to the a/c. If none of the above apply to you resize your textures. Jim Burke Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
January 27, 201412 yr In my FSX.cfg, under the GRAPHIC section I have a line: TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD = 1024. The resolution in my FSX settings is set to 1024 X 768 X 32. Is there other place where it could be set differently? Marcel Perron
January 27, 201412 yr Author hey guys, first all of where can I change the external texture resolution of the 777 to 1024? FSX.cfg only? thanks felipe turbay

Is there other place where it could be set differently? I think Ryan(Tabs) said that the TML setting of 1024, 2048, or 4096 doesnt effect aircraft texture loading, it only effects scenery, water and cloud resolution. For a/c you need to manually resize textures. Jim Burke Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
January 27, 201412 yr Author it seems that changing the texture resulution is a more complitaded thing to do... http://forum.avsim.net/topic/423758-skeleton-no-skin-777-potential-fix-question-on-reinstallation-of-acceleration/ felipe turbay
January 27, 201412 yr it seems that changing the texture resulution is a more complitaded thing to do... Looks to me like the process described there is unnecessarily complicated. You need DXTBmp. Open each texture and change the setting for the density of file to save. Then save it. Uncheck "Include with saving" under "Mipmaps" on the right or you will get blurry textures. You don't need to send it to another editor like Adobe, edited it there, and then send it back to DXTBmp. DXTBmp will reduce the textures by itself. I haven't tried to decrease the loading time on PMDG T7s using this utility but it should work. (It did work to reduce the excessively large texture size on some third-party repaints I downloaded). Be sure to backup your original texture files first. Mike
