Is anyone going back to FSX now after 2 days with P3Dv2?

I'm just glad I got the last of my AI models recompiled before I caved...

I can very well go back to v1.4. I can't get v2 to work so far.

VAL0030.png

Of course, as a real test, now that the Eastonian Migration tool works with V2, I'll start adding more stuff and see how i performs.

I've had V2 installed for 2 days, and I don't know how to get my FSX planes installed, which I was hoping was the RA Turbine Duke but I guess that is a no-go as they don't mention compatibility.  Or is it more that RA doesn't want to have to support it in P3D?  I have the QW757 which I'd like to get installed too.  Not sure where to start w/ those and help is appreciated.

Well, I've checked this post out a few times since it's creation, with the intent of saying something along the lines of 'oh, I'll be running both sims, P3D is pretty and all but...'

Truth is, I'm running out of 'buts'!

I've been able to port over at least half of the regular planes I fly, so far, and the ones I have yet to do are either confirmed to be doable, or have had devs confirm that they're working on an upgrade / patch.

It was the moment after I'd loaded up the latest, now finished, package of the Twin Otter - everything working perfectly, shadows falling across the dash, 45 of the smoothest frames per second that I've ever seen...

Or perhaps the absolutely perfect landing that I did in a mild crosswind at dusk in Lionheart's Super Pacer - again the butter smoothness contributing to a fluid feel that I don't know that I've ever felt in FSX, even at 60 fps...

Or flying out of Miramar in the T-45, heading north along the coast and watching low level fog hugging the mountains...

Or that 600knt flight inbetween buildings in a nicely shadowed, very dense Manhatten that I'd only ever seen once as a sideshow. And then switching the weather theme to fogged in, pulling 180 and threading my way through skyscrapers looming out of the fog...

Yep, pretty sure I'm hooked.

Yes, there's a few teething pains, a few things that need attention - the terrain shadowing on the sunlit side of hills, the white boxes that appear in the autogen sometimes (yes, I've reported my experience with that one at LM), the strange happenings with rain and frame rates. I'm sure that we'll figure out soon enough how to get the best out of this sim, but for now it's already given me some incredible experiences that have exceeded what FSX has ever given me.

I hope you weren't "entertained" when doing that.  Did you do it because you want to learn how to fly like Maverick in Top Gun?

Nature Boy

Will use both, but my FSX has now basically become a Majestic Q400 simulator, P3D for everything else:-) I need a break from PMDG, so that is on hold till next year when its officially supported with P3D.

I've installed scenery ,but the only got one full flight out of it yet with the AXE.

The bug in the asc.dll and the runtime error in Prepar3D are preventing me from moving further.

FSX with DX10 is stable right now,did a flight with NGX (Southwest) from KPHX - KLAX just to fly again ;)

Im sure you will be adopted by plenty of FS9rs soon enough.

Nah! When I transition it'll be straight to Prepar3d!

Autogen only matters in the last 15min of a flight anyways

Ah, but they are the 15 minutes that count!

What is EVO How to get Evo 2016 FS9 Evolution Forum

I was using GTX 580, and the difference between 580 and 780ti is quite big. I started P3D2 with 580 and found the card was struggling a lot. In the end I learned from forums that I need to cut down on shadows, hide the menu bar and update the driver. After doing those the 580 actually gave me pretty decent performance. Unfortunately by that time I already ordered 780ti so I decided to stick with the purchase (with overnight delivery!). 780 performs better than 580 with all slides maxed and all shadow casts on, so overall I'd say it's about 2x better? But still, with 580 I feel I get about 70% of P3D2 image quality.

Thanks! Good news! I do have a GTX580 and am also thinking about a GTX780! Now I know I will indeed will have benefit from it. Nice! Exactly what I was hoping for!

Noel, I would heavily recommend getting the FS Estonia Migration Tool.  It is unbelievably effective at migrating your FSX add-ons into P3D2.    Simply turn it on to "Virtual FSX mode" and run all of your installers as normal..... that's it! ..... they'll be installed into the P3D2 for you.

Up to now I have all of these add-ons working in P3D2, and in all cases, with the Migration Tool activated all I had to do was run the installers:-

All FlyTampa Sceneries

All Aerosoft Sceneries (one or two are lacking runway lights)

Tons of other sceneries

Airbus X Extended

Airbus X Twin Otter Extended

QW 146 / Avros

feelThere ERJs

feelThere E-Jets

Eaglesoft Citation X 2.0

RealAir Duke B60 2.0

RealAir Legacy

RealAir T-Duke

Carenado planes  x6

MilViz C310R

etc

etc

etc

Just get the tool, and sit back and relax.

IMPORTANT TIP:    When you are using the Migration Tool to install an addon into P3D2, and you're installing an add-on that already natively has an option for installing into FSX or P3D 1.4, you must choose FSX even though this seems counter-intuitive.    With the Migration Tool, if you choose a P3D installation on an installer, it will install into P3D 1.4 !! ............. But if you choose FSX it will install into P3D2.

ORBX scenery is a big favorite of mine. However, they are not prepared to migrate many products to P3D V2.0 . Has anyone used the "Estonia" tool to migrate ORBX regional airport scenery products to P3D V2.0 ?

It works but I think people flow is affected. Or at least that's what happened last time I tried to install Orbx stuff straight into P3D 1.4.

They will be releasing an updated Orbx migrator for v2.0 soon. That'll be all you need.

I am very pleased that so many are not looking back after trying V2, one mystery for me though is how quickly simmers can just walk away from some of the great aircraft that are only availalbe on the old platform.  I just could not leave behind my ConcordeX ,  Q400 !!!  and to a lesser extent the PMDG products.  Here is hoping they make the transition over to V2 rather quickly so I can hop on board.

Thank you very much for that Dave it sounds easy and safe (i.e., won't corrupt my FSX installation!)

How does RA T-Duke run for you on V2?

Cheers!

It's like stepping away from an abusive relationship..  Lots of memories when things were new and good and you want to hang on to the good times but after years and years of abuse and berating (OOM/Tweaking/Blurries) you finally just realize you have to cut your loses and move on.  I did it at 1.3 and it's nice to see new converts w/ v2...  Eventually incompatible addons will come up to par..  The developers are really starting to accept Prepar3D as a reality and most are onboard fullspeed.
