This is what our flight sims could look like

Featured Replies

This is what our flight sims could look like ...  if only someone would put up the money to develop it.

There is always money for a war-sim.

We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically.

But i

But is there any for a flight simulator to replace FSX?

I suspect for a number of reasons, no.

Or, to be more clear, I believe there may be things happening, but the current paradigm has been of heavy cash/resource-limititations

I suspect the people using xplane, Aerofly or Prepar3D would disagree and say there is money for replacements for FSX in the consumer GA flight sim market place.

A big infusion of money for Xplane development apparently came from the release of the tablet version, which was a simplified release with wid(er) appeal.

Aerofly seems to be going that route too, though I note that many didn't consider Aerofly to be a "true" sim in the first place. To me, that's a good thing, since it leaves them free to pursue a wider audience.

I believe P3D only exists because it has "other" money behind it.

My point is, that without appeal to a broader swath of people than the current community (or some other large revenue stream like business or Government) it seems that any new sim vying for the throne of FSX is going to face some pretty daunting resource restraints.

Well broader could also mean the emerging economies so any future sim should be multi lingual from the off and also have a spread of aircraft, where are the Russian domestic airliners for example?

Right now the Russians are swarming all over War Thunder.

Of course anything could happen, but until someone has the confidence to invest serious money in such a flight simulator it won't.

You mean like the money not being invested in P3D and xplane for example because Laminar Research and Lockheed have no cofidence in those products?

How many different languages are supported by P3D and X-Plane?

And that reinforces the argument about resources. War Thunder is available in English, French, German, Italian and Spanish. They've cast a big net for the broadest possible range of users, and who knows? With all the resources they've gathered from that, maybe they'll double back later and cater a bit more to what many people here consider to be "True" simming. By that point, even a small expenditure of resources on their part might seem large by comparison.

Their road-map:

  • personal statistics;
  • squadrons (clans);
  • enhanced game balancer;
  • new missions, locations and game modes;
  • major update, new menu and interface;
  • further FM corrections;
  • new aircraft (check the Release Tree section);
  • economic model update;
  • localization for more languages;
  • control over ground vehicles and battleships;
  • tournaments;
  • player authored missions, and full mission editor;
  • «World War» game mode;
  • bomber cockpits;
  • voice chat.

Gerry, you know how to use Google, why don't you answer that question?

And that reinforces the argument about resources.

But carefully doesn't answer the question.

Making a flight not like fps game and it's more complex physics and graphical reqiurements. Accept what around Xplane and Flight Gear, FSX the main course. Make a flight simulator next generation just look slow progress look at XP 10. Gonna need more than concepts people. Resources are better spent improving what exists. DCS and XP10 are the future with flight gear starting to reach fsx quality by 2018.

Aren't Lockheed Martin supposedly working on a 64-bit version of P3D?
FSX re-written, multi-core support, all the goodies, AND we get to enjoy our 3rd Party Devs as well.
Then again, don't take me seriously, this is something I read whilst browsing around the forums, can't remember where, and it may or may not be a figment of my imagination (let's call it a dream).
I don't see why we're calling for an all new sim when Lockheed can 64-bitalize the heck out of FSX, make it run like a dream, then all just install Orbx's World. *BANG*, stunning graphics and easy on the frames at the same time.

If only Lockheed stop being so... Closed..
So what if we accidentally get a whiff of the next-next-next generation air superiority fighter!?
We'd all be on a high with the sim anyway!
