Support for FSX Has Come to an End

+1

This is the first XP that I've ever considered, but it has a long way to go for me personally. I wouldn't be surprised if V11 or 12 hits the spot though.

Considering FSX is technically version 10 of the FS franchise and perhaps P3D could be seen as FS11, that makes the XPlane franchise neck to neck with FS. FSX also has a long way to go and it is what it is today because of the 3PD support.

How about we compare XP10 plain vanilla stock vs FSX plain vanilla stock

In some areas, X-Plane 10 is light years ahead of FSX. In other areas, FSX is light years ahead of X-Plane 10.

In what areas is FSX light years ahead of XPX? Remember, we are talking about stock, out of the box installations.

I . as a pseudo serious simmer have never had "stock" FSX. Never have never will and that is were FSX way outshines Xplane. I insist on complicated aircraft, scenery, airports etc. If all you want is to putt around with decent, not great performance. Xplane is fine and a good alternative for the FLIGHT transformers.

Stock ATC and AI in FSX are way better, and the FSX stock scenery is better than X-Plane's plausible world. However, X-Plane does have a better engine and flight dynamics.

I agree I've found FSX better than X-Plane, but I do like the X-Plane default scenery tiles a bit more than FSX. They seem a bit more natural to me. Having said that, I fly with Tileproxy so often that I rarely see FSX's default textures. When it comes to flight dynamics, it's hard to beat RealAir's products. I have the Duke, and it flies so naturally. I am (or was, I haven't flown in a few years) a trike pilot, and I modelled a trike for FS9/FSX. Again, the MSFS platform allowed me to get the flight dynamics very close to what I experienced in the real world. I'm not saying X-Plane's flight dynamics are off--I'm just saying that you can achieve very good results with the MSFS platform if you put effort into it.

Check the library. We already are.

Great news, that was the question I was going to ask. I have my own copies but just in case nice to know they are here at Avsim.

Just to understand:

If the full contents from FSX original CDs are copied to Hard Drive Folders ..ok.

Do you run an installer from the hard drive (folder disk1 .. FSX original disk1 contents) to do the re-install of FSX?

Paul is right of course , no need for ISO files . And yes, you can run the installer directly from the hard drive as long as the folders you copied the contents of the DVDs to have the right names : FSX Disk 1 and FSX Disk 2

KInd regards

Thanks for confirming how to get personal copies of the FSX "FSX Disk 1 and FSX Disk 2" ... using these folder names on the hard drive.

Backed up to the hard drive ready for later reinstall.

Greetings all!

Jennifer here, just wanted to jump in to let you know that I am looking into a few questions Tom sent along yesterday after I contacted him regarding the FSX support announcement.

One question specifically was in regards to the FSInsider page and its future.

Currently we have no immediate plans to remove the site, however Tom tells me there is some content there that some people would like to see archived.

Rather than risk this content disappearing Tom had proposed we allow AVSIM to archive the articles here.

I honestly cannot think of a better place. We are more than willing to let AVSIM do so if desired. (Please give credit to authors and site the original source of course.)

I will continue to look into other questions that have arisen and do what I can to get you answers.

Thank you Jennifer. We'll start archiving the content tonight. On behalf of the AVSIM Community, thank you and the team!
