Realair duke or milviz b55

Featured Replies

you can't have too many Beechcraft ;)

If time is no object, yes I agree :) It is a good deal the package too, but I just wouldn't get time to fly the B60 myself. With the Scout Package, the Turbine Duke, the Baron, Lancair, Katana, RV-7, plus the PMDG J41, and the Catalina flying boat I have my hands full! Not that I'm complaining now...

The MilViz 310R is light twin with very good flight model as well.

+1 I would get this over the piston duke.

Wow, thanks for all the input! Still getting a feel for the milviz...flight model is a bit too jumpy/has a few kinks in it, I know they are working on addressing a few things which hopefully will improve things a bit when the sp comes out. I think I'm going to also try the B60 turbine also as they are very different aircraft. Looking forward to getting back to PNW and zooming in and out of some small fields, been PMDGing lately which has meant larger airports.

Any favourite airports in ORBX PNW? I like flying into Nanaimo and Kelowna...

Thanks for the feedback!

Tough choice I've got them all...

I prefer the Turbine Duke over the 310 but the 310 over the piston duke lol....

Both Dukes are faster than the c310 and both dukes can fly higher.

I'd get the Turbine Duke and the 310 if you could...

Tring to figure out which to buy, looking for a light twin to practice ifr. Interested in the duke package to get piston and turbine, but also really liking the vc and missions pack idea of the milviz.

I was about to say the Duke due to it's clearer instruments which in my opinion are easer to read than MilViz' old ones, but after some testing I'm not so sure anymore. The thing is the Baron feels much more lively and reminds me more about my experience from real life IFR training. In the Duke you can just let go of the controls and it will fly almost perfectly straight on it's own.The Baron on the other hand moves about a lot and requires frequent corrections to stay on course. My advice is this: If you want to have your work cut out for you, get the Baron. If you want to feel like you're a better pilot than you really are, get the Duke.

That said, they're both good add-ons and with the Baron at least there's always the option to have your money back if you don't like it.

I don't have an opinion on one or the other either - except if you want brand spanking new looks and excellent programming, then RealAir would have to be the default choice. The Milviz VC looks great though - well worn in and hints of piston slap.

As someone else has already mentioned earlier, I am curently enjoying the Carenado Cessna 337H. THis is a lovely aircraft to fly. An in line twin with IFR capabilities. Flies very well. IF you don't already have it take a look at the video's and specs on this - sounds are great as well.

I've flown the C310, B55 and the Duke. Only the Cessna survived.

B55: Nice graphics, good flight dynamics, pretty good handbook. Fps are not so good. I don't like the instruments so much.

The mission pack (http://milviz.com/filesfordownload/missions.zip) is cool!!

Duke: Crisp cockpit, even radar altimeter! Still it feels sterile and synthetic. Fps are not so good either, but I

think its a little better than the B55.

C310: Graphics are not that much state of the art - after all its a 2010 model. Excellent flight dynamics, very

good handbook, good overall package. G1000 version included, the Mindstar G1000 and flight1 GNS

can be integrated. Also, if you tweak it a little, the B55 mission pack will work on the Cessna too.

Since I like IFR flying and buzzing around at high fps, my choice would be the C310. It's the aircraft I

fly the most in FSX and Milviz even ported it to P3Dv2.

RealAir Turbine Duke - it has better graphics, more of a pilots plane for flying. In the Milviz B55 class, go for the Carenado B58 Baron, I think it's a better finished and detailed model and having flown the real one on occasions it has an accurate flight/performance envelope.

You really have some solid choices in the GA twin category. I think they all have great flight dynamics and nice VC's. If you want a 2D panel option, then go MilViz. However, I think you'll find yourself getting all 4 eventually. Really, it's just a matter of which one to buy first!

I fly both - and I enjoy both. For me, one of the things tip tips in favor of the Duke is its compatability with RXP 530 and 430 - the duke has a very easy setup to add them, while adding them into the B55 required that I alter the aircraft file by hand. So for me, the V2 Duke edges out the B55...

The B55 also doesn't really support night lighting for the RXPs and night lighting in general is not one of its strengths, especially at dusk and dawn.  On the other hand, the important part is handled, and that's compatibility with the 3D panel.  Without that, you're in popup territory.  In any case, any one of us can provide the necessary config info for the B55 and once that's handled, function is solid.

That said, while the B55 is very nice especially if you have a thing for the baby Barons as I do, there's just more to the Duke with its complex sound and movement effects.  And in real world terms remember, the B55 is a normally aspirated, non-pressurized light twin with no deice capabilities, while the Duke is an entry-level cabin class plane, turbocharged, pressurized and certified for flight into known icing.  It's a significant step up from a B55 Baron in speed, systems, function and capability.

Get both. The RealAir Duke Turbine is a race car and a blast to fly!.. The Milviz B-55 has a lot of character and is a joy to fly!..
