April 13, 200422 yr I've just upgraded my computer to an Intel Pentium 4 3.2GHz processor. I now have 1.5GB DDR RAM as well as an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB. Now, I'm led to believe that this is a pretty good system. Yet in Flight Sim 9, when I'm in the cessna at San Diego, the maximum fps I get is 30. And this is with all the scenery set to minimum, as well as all the filtering and mipmapping turned down really low. I've tried renaming the autogen file, I've tried loading Windows in a 'clean boot' mode to disable all the background tasks, I've tried the fps fix, I've tried upgrading all the drivers, I've onlu just re-formatted the hard drive, and none of it seems to work.I was expecting after this upgrade that Flight sim would now run pretty well. But I still get low frame rates and jerky play.Is there anything I'm missing here?Any help would be much appreciated.-Phil Phil Brown
April 13, 200422 yr What Power Supply (PSU) are you using?Heat could also be a cause for low fps. Ark -------------------------- I9 9900K @ 5ghz / 32GB G.Skill (Samsung B) / Aorus Master Mobo / EVGA GTX 2080Ti FTW 3
April 13, 200422 yr Moderator Phil,Obvious question first... you don't have the frame rate limiter set to 30 do you?Assuming you don't then my next question is how much cloud do you have set? The amount of cloud and the number of cloud layers are a huge factor in determining FS performance.I create a FLT purely for test purposes which helps me determine if new drivers deliver better or worse performance. I still use Rwy 36 at Meigs and with my Intel 3.0, 1Gb PC3200 RAM and Radeon 9800 Pro with Catalyst 3.2 drivers (from memory I think those are the current ones) I'm getting 52fps with a full-forward view (no panel) with the fair weather theme at 1280*960 with most of the settings at their max. You should be getting something very similar.Cheers, Ray (Cheshire, England). April 13, 200422 yr Here's what I'd suggest. I have experienced strange performance drops for no reason in FS9 that make it look like there were changes made to the sim that I did not want. Everytime this happens, my top frame rates are cut in half. So, I've built a little backup FS9.cfg file that I know has all the tweaks I want built into it and I keep a copy in the same location as the regular FS9.cfg. When the above problem hapens, I delete the FS9.cfg and copy/paste the backup and rename it FS9.cfg. BANG! Performance back through the roof.Try deleting your FS9.cfg and see if that helps. It works everytime for me.Let us know.

April 13, 200422 yr Commercial Member Hi, Make sure you have downloaded Highest Clouds Performance v2 (1.17mb). (Not fps and fix v2)Try-Clouds draw distant to 30 mile-Clouds percentage to 10%,30%, 50% or 100%-Clouds density to low or medium.-Enable T&L in the fs2004 display-Anasotropy to 8x or higher will reduce your performance.ThanksChris Willis[link:fsw.simflight.com/FSWMenuFsSim.html]Clouds And Addons For MsFs Kind RegardsChris Willis
April 13, 200422 yr Phil, Here are some questions for you, have you done the updates for Windows XP, what versions of Direct X are you using, and have you updated all of your drivers, including motherborad, sound card, video card, etc.? Also as another has asked how many watts is your power supply as this could be a problem if it is too low? Also some more information about what kind of motherboard and the other components you have may go a long way to help someone find a solution to your problem. The more information you provide the easier it is for someone to help you. Thanks,Philip Olsonhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/supporter.jpg
April 13, 200422 yr Moderator Phil,Please confirm the following...1. What resolution are you running FS2004?2. Are you running in Windowed mode or full-screen mode?3. Are the frame rates the same in both modes?4. What settings do you have for AA and AF? Mine are 2X (AA, default) and 8X (AF).5. Are you certain DirectX 3D acceleration is enabled? To check this open Control Panel and select DirectX. Alternatively from Start/Run type DXDIAG and hit Return. Click on the Display tab and ensure DirectDraw Acceleration, Direct3D Acceleration and AGP Texture Acceleration are all Enabled.Sorry if some of this is obvious. There's a big bottleneck somewhere and we have to find it.Cheers, Ray (Cheshire, England). April 13, 200422 yr PhilIn addition to all the above, make sure you don't have FSAA enabled in Display Settings within FS9, and enable T&L. Also you might want to set DirectX sound acceleration to 'Basic'; do this using dxdiag.David
