Is it just me or is there something wrong with the NGX Sounds?

Featured Replies

^im%20Not%20Worthy.gif PMDG recorded the sounds with a microphone in a real NG. How can you say the sounds are wrong? Quite funny actually.
Were the Cockpit Audio warnings also recorded LIVE in the cockpit, or were they recorded by a voice talent ?The Altitude warnings have an enormous ECHO on them . Geoff

I doubt that the spool up sound of the 737 will suddenly change from Row 1 to the cockpit
Yes it will. What you hear upfront is totally different to the cabin, not just the rattling stuff and avionics buzz, everything sounds different... Packs, Wind, Engines... Cheers,Markus

No echo here. Nevertheless I'm pretty sure they were recorded. I replaced the altitude callouts with some from a level D sim though, as I found the ones included a little distorted. However, I'd sure like to know "who" actually is that voice. For the F-16s and the like it's known, but I don't know for Boeing commercial airliners. sig.gif
Did they not fix a mic to the end of a real aircrafts wing to record the sounds incase someone wanted to position themselves there for takeoff? Talk about cutting corners PMDG!
Iain In fairness, I don't think they did.... But as the guy who was holding the camera whilst all the external spot views were filmed, I can assure you that the NGX sounds are pretty authentic, at least from the outside in-flight perspective! LOL.gif Toni.

the cockpit sounds are identical to being in the real aircraft cockpit. They are not close or an approximation, the sound you hear is identical. That said, what you will hear in the passenger cabin is completely different so if you want the sounds to be like cabin sounds, they are indeed incorrect. The key point here, is they are not supposed to be the sounds from the cabin. There are many people in the PMDG tech/beta group who have had thousands of hours in the 737 cockpit and are entirely happy with the audio. It really is as good as it gets. Things sound very different in the cabin for lots of reasons, including doppler effect from where you are sitting.

Brilliant! I really have nothing constructive to add other than I very much enjoy the NGX.

Why find something to complain about? The sounds are simply amazing and that's that; case closed! biggrin.png

One other thing, about the difference between the cabin and cockpit sounds that haven't been mentioned here, is the sound deadening materials used in the cabin for the comfort of the passengers, where the cockpit skin is more bare metal. This changes the acoustics, between the 2 areas.

Thanks

Seriously... Another passenger claiming something rediculous from passenger experience...
yeah and what are you......an ng pilot? Get off your high horse. Your posts dont really help the matter....do they?

FAA: ATP-ME, 737 CA, enough time in the 757/767 to be dangerous 🤠

You can't just shrug off something by saying 'well that's not what this things meant for'. This is supposed to be the best, most realistic, most in-depth aircraft ever. Simulation is not the only thing that reflects this. Sound does it too, as an immersion factor, if it's wrong, then that's a problem. My opinion can be wrong, but IMO I will still say the sounds are a bit iffy, especially the spoolup sound. That is my opinion. But it's quick ridiculous to say 'this is a simulation so sound can be wrong', when sound is a huge factor in simulation itself. This is regardless of whether I am wrong or not.
Rest assured, your opinion is wrong.

I don't think the sounds that PMDG produced are wrong, in fact I think they are too good. Cabin pressure (on your ears), passenger conversation and physical (aircraft structure) acoustics make us hear differently. The PMDG sounds are "clean" and so we perceive them differently. For example, imagine recording the sound of a 9mm pistol firing in a closed range-- then fired on a hot lightly windy day outdoors.

In the NGX at cruise, I can't listen to the local terrestrial FM stations below on my MP3 player like I can as a passenger in a real NG.
