PMDG 737 NGX: PMDG's attitude toward realism

Featured Replies

It is still running significantly better than the MD-11...
What? That's impossible with all those details and other stuff!

I'm sure we'll look at how to implement it when we do the 777-300.
Well, now we know PMDG is doing the 773. Now we just need to know if they are also doing the -200 as well and if so what type, ER or LR.

Captains-Just to answer a couple of questions that have been asked...1) 2D panels: The product is currently planned to have some form of 2D panel, but we haven't yet decided on the depth. The 2D panels will be built by rendering out of the VC model, as this is the most effective way to ensure we match the 2D/VC. (Everyone take notes: Dan was wrong in his answer above... Today is 30SEP10... It might be some time before we see that happen again.
Not sure what "some form" means, but...I have to say... if there is a complete set of 2D panels, as we see in the MD-11, then I will purchase. If there isn't... my credit card stays firmly in my wallet.I think there will be quite a few that feel the same way. With the incredible level of development that's going into this product, including features most of us will not even notice... it would seem bizarre to not cater for the considerable percentage of us that favor the 2D cockpit exclusively.Therfore, as a long time PMDG fan, I would urge you to supply a full set of 2D panels.Pretty please. :(
Still, I did really hope for a HQ 2D version, now bringing up it's not clear how deep it would go scares me quite a great bit to be honest.
Scares me too... I just had to go for a quick undergarment change.Martin Wilby.

I was wondering if you could assign keys to specific failures, I would like it if in the assign keys section you could say preset"Engine Fire" to a key so we could the choose when to implement it because I don't really like to "Time Till Failure" mode. Thanks,Rónán Kyne.

It would be great if the pictures were linked to from an outside server instead of attaching them to avsim, as its impossible to click them to make them big. The way it is now its only possible to see the small preview images instead of the full res ones.

Martin,I don't want to start a VC or 2D panel discussion. I don't care if it is better or worse.I was always a 2D fan. But with the release of the MD11 I forced myself to use the VC. Honestly, It is more like the real thing. (you don't have arrows on the panel in real Big%20Grin.gif)I used it for a while and now I must say that I don't want anything else. The view is more real, you have a better overview at all the instrument. I don't want to go back.I must admit I use some popup 2d screens on a seperate monitor (FMC and sometimes AP), because it is sometimes hard to read.If you want the 2D that is no problem of cause, it is your descision. I only want to say, try it for a while. And when you are used to it, it gives a lot more fun looking around in a "real cockpit".RegardsEric

Its not more real, you are still looking at a flat monitor screen. But more importantly, its way less functional in a high workload situation. And yes, I have used the VC alot, there are certain planes i only use the VC in (as their 2d panels are really, really bad).

There is no way I could denie this statement :biggrin:You are right. Thats why I said I think "it is more like the real thing". Despite the level of accuracy it will never be the real thing.Eric

there will be a 2 panle! like in all the other pmdg planes!
You should read the quote that my comment was to before attempting to be smart. I said "Not anymore" in a reply to someone saying "are you sure?" After he said that I was "Not sure anymore" and not saying there wasn't going to be one. My very first comment did say that, but I think I got my wires very crossed from older threads, one of which long ago was stated that there probably was not going to be one. So find out what you're actually replying to before hand.On a somewhat different note:Glad to see there is going to be a 2D, since as someone a few pages ago pointed out, that is one way a lot of cockpit builders tied there individual switches to their hardware. That wasn't and isn't always the case though, and the SDK I think will be a great benefit. Now a note on the SDK:I was on the phone for hours last night with a good friend from this forum. He's in my area for a few days so we were trying to arrange some fun plans for the weekend. At one point we talked about pit builders versus gadget users and one thing that came up that I'm really looking forward to is what we will see from hardware companies. Pit building is insanely expensive and the main reason is there just isn't enough competition. Of course I don't think PMDG releasing an SDK will effect that part of the market one bit, but definitely will give us more options (less expensive options more importantly) with other gadget companies like Go Flight and others since they have wanted to include PMDG for years. Trust me I know since I have talked to them,,, for years.

Not true! :(
How would you compare FPS; j41 vs. MD-11. If the MD-11 get better FPS then the J41 then I'm happy. If the MD-11 gets worse FPS then the J41 then I'm not happy....how does the J41 stack up to the NGX in terms of FPS? Thanks

I need a 2D because sometimes at the end of a long flight in either PMDG 744, 748, and MD11 all the other views have disappeared. There ia no VC, spot view, wing view, no scenery, no runways, etc. For some reason the 2D cockpit still is visable and functional. I have done quite a few ILS approaches and landings on grass fields or whatever. It's aii still there. I just can see it unless it's the 2D cockpit. Michael Cubine

The MD-11 does get a better frame rate than the J41 for me atleast.
