August 17, 200322 yr Commercial Member Gents-Thanks for keeping this conversation mostly civil... Copyrights always become a hotbutton issue in the simming community. At PMDG we are highly sensitive to this- as copyrights are the basis by which our company exists...I've not met the author of the checklists- but I have exchanged email with Cuyler and found him to be a good guy with good intentions... If I were a betting man I'd say this was an honest mistake with no ill intentions- and I hope you all can work it out so that everyone feels their Intellectual Property has been protected...But getns- thanks for keeping the conversation mostly civil. August 17, 200322 yr Hi Cuyler,>I have PMDG's permisssion to use there material.< PMDG's material is not the matter of discussion here. >I found no copyright associated the Boyd's materialHowever, I did give him credit, which amounts to the same thing as a footnote in academic circles. You don't expect every author of a book who footnotes another author for use of material to get permission before inclusion in his work, do you. That does not happen in the legal or real world. Footnoting or acknowledging the original author is required.I both had copyright permission and did acknowledge Boyd as the author I used to modify the checklist.I did not pass this off as original material.I did not ask Boyd for his permission, which was a mistake, because there was no copyright notice or warning attached to the files I downloaded.:). My preferred (completely non-legal) advice would be for you to invite Boyd out for a beer, so the two of you can discuss the workings of the 737 over a couple of brews...Cheers,Gosta.http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg
August 27, 200322 yr If you only 'citated' Boyd (and even forgot to footnote or mention him somewhere) I don't think he would be reacting in such a matter. But when somebody 'takes' the complete work of someone else and only changes a few things (keeping 90% the same), I wouldn't call this "using" his work. Think how this is called somewhere else.
