July 11, 200322 yr man how i do hate that discussion....airbus has its flaws and boeing has it's flaws... big deal.. no need to compare.they're both capable of transporting people cross the world.... that's all it's got to do and if it does it, why start bragging about it....Cheers
July 11, 200322 yr They most certainly did... in the years before they became airline pilots, training, instructing for practically minimum wage, flying puddle jumpers for years with barely a raise, then even in the majors, getting crap assignments until they rank high enough on the food chain to pick choice gigs. Believe me, pilots _earn_ their stripes, and every dime they make!
July 11, 200322 yr That's pretty good...even the real pilots have their Airbus vs. Boeing wars in the forums along with all the usual characters defending their own side of the arguement. Just like us.I love this comment about the 737NG: The MCP looks very similar to the 744's. An ergonomic ####-up. I'm sure design of the thing commenced at 3.00pm on a friday afternoon just before the pubs opened! Eric

July 11, 200322 yr Who knows Fred, in another 75 years, the pilots will be at a computer terminal remotely flying the aircraft from the ground...to bad I'll be dead by then. :-hah Eric
July 11, 200322 yr Hmmm... I think someone recently saw the Matrix Reloaded and has been spending way to much time in the forum. :-lolGeorge George Morris
July 11, 200322 yr This is really fascinating stuff. I never liked the NGs as a passenger because a 737 that could fly from LA to New York seemed like a terrible idea. Unless you are on Alaska, American or in UAL's premeiere section, that's an awful long time to be cooped up in what most airlines configure as a flying greyhound bus...Colin Ware

July 12, 200322 yr Now this post has made its way onto the first page (AGAIN) - I have to say summat.Whilst I fully appreciate that pprune is interesting and pilots chatting about the real NG is both interesting and relevant here - Everytime someone bumps this post it usually drops a post requesting support or reporting a problem about PMDG's NG off the first page. The space available on the first page is very limited due to the amount of 'sticky' posts and therefore a post can drop off the first page extremely quickly. In my opinion this forum would be better served at the moment for support and reporting problems with PMDG's NG. The pprune thread belongs in the hanger chat forum or somewhere else, at least until it has calmed down a little here. I can imagine the frustration of someone posting a request or whatever only to have it bumped off the first page because of the repeated bumping of the pprune post.Just my opinion, someone is bound to shoot me for it. In any case, I fail to see the relevance - PMDG's NG would be grounded if it existed in real life whereas the real NG is not - despite what pilots think about it. Shoot...Rich.BTW - I do see the irony of bumping this post, albeit a couple of slots (not back onto the first page). Also, the fact that this post will likely generate some 'but a real pilot said' replies...whatever.
July 12, 200322 yr Hi"Just my opinion, someone is bound to shoot me for it. In any case, I fail to see the relevance - PMDG's NG would be grounded if it existed in real life whereas the real NG is not - despite what pilots think about it."Hmmm sort of what I was thinking.Funny how the front page is full of stickies with workarounds etc but you know how it is so just give it a rest right Rich?;)It amazes me what lengths some folks will go to rationalize slipshod programming/testing is`nt it?Oops I bumped this did`nt I?So Sorry.

July 12, 200322 yr Hi Colin,>I never liked the NGs as a passenger because a 737 that could fly from LA to New York seemed like a terrible idea. July 12, 200322 yr Hi Ryan,>Well let me tell you UAL invented something worse - it's called the A319 transcon route.:) It's just a matter of time before they say 'It's just a couple more miles to London - can we have ETOPS, please?' However, the NG was used on the most ridiculous route - EDDL-KEWR. OK, it was the BBJ, and it was business class only with a total of 50 seats, but still... Surprisingly, this service has becaome so popular, that they now use it on EDDL-KEWR, EDDL-KORD, EDDM-KEWR and EDDM-KORD, but with the ACJ (A319), operated by PrivatAir on behalf of Lufthansa. I'm sure it won't be long, before airlines start operating the regular 737-size jets across the pond - Aloha has already set a precedent by getting ETOPS certification for their 737s to fly to the mainland...Cheers,Gosta. http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg
