  1. Started by Chock,

Camphill in Derbyshire is one of my favourite airfields, I've flown from there loads of times and although it is not the airfield where I learned to fly gliders, nor did my first solos in them etc (that was at the far more forgiving and considerably larger old WW2 Wellington bomber airfield at Husbands Bosworth), I still regard Camphill as the airfield which made me a good pilot, because it is so challenging to land there. There are numerous hills on the approaches which can cause vicious downdrafts, necessitating one to sometimes bring a glider in very steep to power through wind gradients, and it is generally the case that gliders will come in at a good 70 knots and the…

  7. Started by Chock,

Another one for comparison of what FSW can do, this time with a slightly more complex FS add-on. Note that again that this is an experiment for evaluation of what FSW can do and not an attempt to seriously get somthing into a sim for which there is no EULA, I would cheerfully pay another licensing expansion fee for this to be in FSW properly, since it was never sold to be used in the new sim, and actually I think one would need to do that since in as much as it seems to fly and look okay in the sim, I'd miss the clickable VC a bit too much to simply put up with a DIY port over a proper sanctioned conversion from the developer. Anyway... Just Flight/Aeroplane Heaven B…

  8. Started by Chock,

Messing about with DTG's FSW to see how easy/hard it is to get FS birds funstioning in the new sim. This is the Virtualcol Shorts 360 in FSW. Sounds, gauges, control surfaces, gear etc all appear to play/animate correctly, wing nav lights don't work but landing lights do. 2D pop up panels are all clickable and most function correctly but VC buttons are not functional. It appears to fly much the same as in FSX with some improvements, for example, if you overspeed it, the airframe rattles and shakes a lot and let's you know you are pushing things too much. Tweaks to the config file and copying a few gauges over are all that was required to get it going in FSW. Note that the…

  12. Taking off from the world's most dangerous airport, Lukla, in Nepal, flying the TBM-850, I follow the deep valley of the Dudh Kosi River to Lake Imja, at the foot of Mount Inja Tse. Gaining altitude over Mount Cho Polu, I fly over Base Camp IV, reaching the top of the world, the summit of Mount Everest. This incredible flight ends at sunset, returning to VNLK Lukla Airport almost at dusk.
