Cloud turbulence in MSFS2024?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'm making a video investigating turbulence in heavy/dense clouds. I've searched the globe for bad weather, using the windy.com thunderstorm overlay, and badbadweather.com. So far I haven't found any significant increase in turbulence or up-/downdrafts when flying through clouds.

I remember a while back, Seb was talking about cloud turbulence being significantly improved in 2024. He does talk about it very briefly in the September Dev Q&A stream. But I think he goes more in-depth in an interview. So if someone can help me find that particular video, I'll be happy 🙂

this??

I honestly feel that since wake turbulence simulation is also disabled, they must have for whatever reason disabled the "improved turbulence" on the release version as well. Its gotta be...surely...

Hm... that would be disappointing.

Are you sure wake turbulence is disabled? I thought I saw someone commenting here that they had hit their own wake on a steep turn. (Haven't tried myself.)

Maybe that true then. Ive just heard multiple people complain of not getting wake so assumed as much. Maybe just AI traffic doesnt have wake

Asobo’s whole MO is to downgrade and remove features. Especially when it comes to weather. Not surprising if they removed it.

Hear hear. That's why MSFS 2024 has downgraded ground detail, downgraded ground handling, and has removed the flight planner, LIDO charts, and 24-hour historical weather. Not to mention all the default planes they've cut, including the solid A330 and A400M.

I do have that right, right?

Or might the situation be more nuanced?

The specific features we're talking about here were newly developed for 2024; if they're apparently not present now, they must have been removed at a late stage. What the reason might be, we can only speculate - but to call this an "MO" of downgrading and removing is grossly oversimplified.

That was me. It was probably perfectly timed turbulence I hit. I never turned turbulence down to "low".

Take-offs are optional, landings are mandatory.
The only time you have too much fuel is when you're on fire.
To make a small fortune in aviation you must start with a large fortune.

There's nothing less important than the runway behind you and the altitude above you.
It's better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air, than in the air wishing you were on the ground.

Well so what *does* have wake turb then? Some multiplayer 747s flying underneath the Golden Gate bridge while you're on final to KSFO?

For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.
