Msfs 2024 looks worse than 2020 for me

Featured Replies

Hi all

So far my msfs 2024 looks worse than 2020, I need to do more investigation. In particular YBAF looks terrible with odd colours and the photogrammetry around the airport, Brisbane and the gold coast is not as sharp as 2020

There are also clumps of brown that I assume are meant to be trees but something is just not right. I have increased the cache to 100 gigs and defaulted the settings,I'll keep investigating but my first impression is underwhelming. Maybe just an issue at my end hopefully. I'm on 1000mb fibre connection. I need to look around a few cities in Australia to compare more. Any chance someone could Do a drone shot showing YBAF so I can see how it compares to mine

Thanks

Wayne

Hello

Here's mine (12pm local, current date, few cloud preset)

Can not compare with MSFS2020 because my 2020 version does not start anymore (based on the official forum it seems like an issue affecting lots of users currently 😱)

Here's mine, just as a comparison across multiple users, in terms of terrain clarity etc. but seems pretty much identical. Though it certainly does look very underwhelming, the fact that there's a big imagery stitch down the middle tells me it's low quality sat imagery to begin with.

First thing i'd ask is the airfield been updated to compatible? or just dumped in from 2020. The reason being it is not matched with the 2024 surrounding's, and i have not seen such a poor representation with any i have moved.

Turn off dynamic FPS.  Dynamic FPS will try to keep a constant FPS, whatever target FPS you set it at, but it will degrade the graphics in order to reach that target FPS. The downside of disabling it is that in some areas where there are a lot of objects and the detail is very high, you will start to stutter.

Turn up your Terrain Level of Detail.  This will make the textures on the ground and the textures on mountains look much better.  But Terrain Level of Detail is an FPS eater, but this is where you can improve the most of your graphics.

For trees, you can increase the slider for trees. I was testing Medium, High, and Ultra, and Ultra trees look so much better than Medium trees. Unfortunately, my graphics card struggles when I set trees to Ultra, so for now, I have lowered it to High.
